Greetings from the New IIGL President!
Vivian Muciri (Kenya)

Its my greatest delight and honor for the trust and faith IIGL has bestowed in me as the incoming president. I have served in the board of IIGL within different capacity and am grateful for the confidence that Ethelbert had in me, and nominated me to serve in the board and now to serve as the president respectively.

Serving at the board, I have experienced lot of opportunities and challenges, and with my acceptance to serve as the president, I know the position is no different and my role is to ensure that IIGL is able to achieve its vision. My role is also to ensure that the goals and objectives of the board are carried throughout my tenure. I believe that the journey will not be a smooth one, if I am to walk it alone. However, I know I am not alone as I serve this institution but have the support of our outgoing president Ethelbert and the rest of the board members currently serving in different capacity.

Let me take this opportunity to acknowledge the tremendous achievement and adorable initiatives of Ethelbert. During his tenure there has been 8 new graduates, the institution was able to recruit 52 new students, and have a total of 49 students moving from one level to another. Our social media presence increased. We were able to complete and publish a testimonial book and consecutively won the great nonprofit award just to mention a few. The greatest achievement I have seen with the outgoing president is ensuring networking and collaboration among IIGL fraternity. This has been achieved through various initiatives such as the zoom check-in that has been done twice, hosting of leadership master class, formation of IIGL alumni and Kenya IIGL chapter WhatApp groups respectively. Ethelbert had also mentioned, “that his primary vision is to promote gender balance within the institution.” Hence I consider one of his greatest achievements is upon the end of his tenure majority of the officers on the board are female. Most importantly, he nominated me to take the role of the president after him, and prepared me for the role.

Ethelbert indeed you are an inspiration, and I am challenged by your legacy as I take up this role after you. I pledge to continue doing the great work you had begun and finalize the pending objectives that were not achieved during your tenure, due to one reason or another. My primary focus will be to ensure that the conference that you were planning happens as long as the circumstance will allow for it. My goal for my term of leadership will be primary focused on collaboration and networking among students, graduates and donors’ hence building strong alliance and visibility for IIGL in respective countries and platform. Leading to increased opportunity for new student joining the program, more graduate channeled from the institution and access to resource mobilization avenues. With the current board am sure we shall do much better and take the institution to greater heights.

To individuals who are part of IIGL in one form or another as a board we still want to say that, this journey we cannot make alone as leaders, but it is through your support, critics and encouragement that we make this institution become much better and transform the lives within our sphere of influence. Always remember, “One book can change a mind. One mind can change the world.” Let us all serve within our capacity as leaders so that we can become the change we want to see in the world. Thank you all, God bless you, and continue to be the change that the world needs right now. God bless you all.

What are Students are Reading

Building the Bridge as you Walk on It ($9.99)
This book ells the personal stories of people who have embraced deep change and inspired author Robert Quinn to take his concept one step further and develop a new model of leadership; “the fundamental state of leadership.” The exploration of this transformative state is at the very heart of the book. Quinn shows how anyone can enter the fundamental state of leadership by engaging in the eight practices that center on the theme of ever-increasing integrity; reflective action, authentic engagement, appreciative inquiry, grounded vision, adaptive confidence, detached interdependence, responsible freedom, and tough love. After each chapter, Quinn challenges you to assess yourself with respect to each practice and to formulate a strategy for personal growth.

The Sun Gazing Community
Sun-gazing.com
The Sun Gazing Community was born out of a growing awareness that suffering is an optional state of being. Through their postings, they have sought to encourage all those seeking spiritual progress in their daily journey. They shared, “We don’t profess to have all the answers. The wisdom of the great thinkers and seekers we have offered on Sun Gazing has illuminated pathways through which we can together continue to challenge and change patterns of thought, speech and behavior that impede our happiness. In so doing, we hope to become more useful members of a world so hungry for meaningful contact. Joy is there for the taking. In creating this website we hope to broaden the scope of what we have begun. Through mutual sharing, together we can continue on this path, working to change hate into love, judgment into tolerance, self-hate into self-respect, despair into hope, and isolation and loneliness into community.”

Make A Difference
Dream Team 22
Please join Dream Team 22 as our goal is to have 22 people contributing $22 per month. We understand that money is energy and that to sustain and build IIGL we need a lot of people pouring their energy into this endeavor on a regular basis. We also know that not everyone can afford to commit $22 a month – especially our students, who live in countries with economies in which this amount can be equal to a weeks’ salary. So we are offering two options for those who wish to become a part of the Dream Team. One can commit to a $22 a month contribution or to spending 22 seconds each day holding the vision of IIGL becoming financially sustainable by the end of 2021!

Please join the Dream Team and help us create an energetic foundation to support the transformational work of IIGL! You can really make a difference in the world by making a modest contribution of time or money. To make the $22 a month commitment or a one time donation, click the link below.
