What Others Are Saying

What Have You Learned?  How Have You Changed?

Enock Joseph Mwesigwa (Uganda)

mwesigwaejoseph@gmail.com

On December 20, 2023, I started my journey with the International Institute for Global Leadership. Over a journey of almost 10 months, I have read and internalized 16 books that have changed my life beyond my initial expectations. At the time I started the IIGL program, I was defined by a few things. I was a fresh graduate. I had started working in an entry role, overseeing the bakery of a food company in Western Uganda. The stress levels were high, because of long working hours, very low pay, and a feeling of failure. I had decided to look for other jobs and opportunities such a scholarship, so that I escape my condition. My personal and spiritual life was also unsatisfactory. At that time, I had started a long-distance Post Graduate Diploma in Project Planning and Management (DPPM), as well as an online Master of Science in Financial Engineering (MScFE). I had also received several rejections from job and scholarship applications. All of these contributed to a sense of stress, leaving no time for meaningful relationships and personal development. I have always liked reading books such as fiction novels, and that is how I got attracted to the IIGL program. The idea of leadership training through reading books called to me as a possible path through the tough life I was living. Ten months later, this essay will explore the changes I have experienced, the beliefs that have evolved, and how I now approach life differently.  Below are some key points I have learned:

Positive Thinking and an Open Mind:  One of the first and most profound changes I have experienced is developing a mindset rooted in positive thinking. This began with reading “As a Man Thinketh” by James Allen, which emphasized the power of thought in shaping one’s reality. Prior to starting my IIGL studies, I often allowed doubts and fears to cloud my judgment. Now, I consciously choose optimism and positivity, even in the face of challenges.

Improved Time Management and Prioritization:  Before joining IIGL, balancing my work responsibilities with academic pursuits often felt overwhelming. However, after studying “Maximum Achievement” and “The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People,” I learned how to manage my time effectively by prioritizing tasks based on importance rather than urgency. This has had a tremendous impact on my productivity.

Inspiration to Dream Bigger:  Books like “Awaken the Giant Within” and “Unlimited Power” have inspired me to dream beyond my previous limitations. Robbins’ teachings on setting high standards and pursuing one’s true potential have helped me expand my vision for the future. I no longer settle for mediocrity, but instead aim for greater achievements. As a result, I was inspired to start new initiatives in my family, such as helping my siblings acquire passports and starting a goat-rearing project for my parents.

Adaptation to New Environments: Moving to Belgium to pursue my MSc in Food Technology at the start of September has been a major life change. However, the lessons I have learned from books like “The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People” has helped me adapt smoothly to my new environment. I am applying strategies like proactive planning and building relationships to make friends and organize my life in Belgium. My ability to adapt is a direct result of the personal development I have undergone through the IIGL program.

Meet Our New Students

There were 2 new students this month.

Kingston Ombweke (Kenya)

I am from Kisii county married to one wife of female gender, we are blessed with three children, one boy and two girls, my first born is 17 years and last born is 12 years, second born is 14 years, I am a businessman selling fruits, vegetables, in short green groceries, I have done this for the last 20 years and it is what keeps me moving with my family, we do the business with my wife, assisting one another to raise our children. After my High school I was not lucky to join college or university, because of financial constrain, my parents tried to raise money but it was impossible to get school fees, I started doing all sorts of manual work which the payment was so little that could not help me join college.

Mduduzi Adrian Mirimi (South Africa)

I am the middle child in a family of five children. My journey began in a small slum/township called Mufakose, just outside Harare in Zimbabwe. Growing up in a modest environment instilled in me a deep sense of resilience and adaptability. At the age of 8, my family moved to South Africa, where the vibrant heart of Central Johannesburg became my new home. Johannesburg, with its rich tapestry of multiple cultures, significantly influenced my upbringing. The city’s music, art, and freedom of expression ignited a spark of creativity within me. By the age of 12, I found myself deeply immersed in the world of music and art. I began drawing and creating song remixes, eventually learning to DJ from one of my older brothers friends. This early engagement with creative arts not only honed my skills but also shaped my identity, providing me with a powerful medium to express my thoughts and emotions.

Make A Difference

Dream Team 22

Please join Dream Team 22 as our goal is to have 22 people contributing $22 per month.  We understand that money is energy and that to sustain and build IIGL we need a lot of people pouring their energy into this endeavor on a regular basis. We also know that not everyone can afford to commit $22 a month – especially our students, who live in countries with economies in which this amount can be equal to a weeks’ salary. So we are offering two options for those who wish to become a part of the Dream Team. One can commit to a $22 a month contribution or to spending 22 seconds each day holding the vision of IIGL becoming financially sustainable by the end of 2024!

Please join the Dream Team and help us create an energetic foundation to support the transformational work of IIGL! You can really make a difference in the world by making a modest contribution of time or money.  To make the $22 a month commitment or a one time donation, click the link below.  To become a member of the Dream Team 22 by committing 22 second a day to help us hold the vision, contact Deb for details:  drosen2@wi.rr.com
