Noel Enobong Eniefiok – Assessments

As A Man Thinketh
Assessment by Noel Enobong Eniefiok (Nigeria)

1. What is the main idea that the author is trying to convey in the book?

The main idea the Author is trying to convey in this book is that a Man is literally what he think, his character being the complete sum of all his thought. He can archive whatever as long as he can think of it

2. What were the seven ideas which were personally most important to you and why? List these seven ideas followed by an explanation after each one as to why it was important to you. Use personal examples from your own life.

The reasons all this ideas are important to me is that all this ideas here builds or destroyed a man, for instance and all these ideas here makes the man, this points explain in totality of the book which leads a man to his own destiny.

a. Seed sown-like a seed thought are sown and nurtured to grow, it could be a good seed or a bad seed, The good seed when sown produces good fruits and the bad seed when also sown will produces Bad fruits. In my personal life when I think about someone either a family member or a friend, The next thing is that come to my mind is what to do for that person, either I visits the person or call the person on the phone to esquire about his or her well been, There has been an instance when a friend was owing me some amount of money, the net thing that came to my mind was the thought of what I could to him to get back my money, so the thought of seizing his property came to my mind, because I know when he remember that his property is in my possession he will hurry up to pay. That was a seed I sow in the form of thought.

b. Character-Thought shape a man’s life because of the kind of thought the man allowed in him, The thought inside flows to the outside that even if you do not see the man’s mind you can tell the state of his mind with what you see on the outside which translate into his character and becomes his personality. Personally because of the kind of person I am and my personality I mind the kind of thought I allowed to dominate my mind so as not to do what is not expected of me as a person, Now if I allowed negative thought to dominate my mind like for instance need a large amount of money without having any goods or services to render, there is no way I can come about that amount of money ,The next think in my mind that is if I allowed will be thought of defrauding people or stealing from people, which will be a despicable act considering my character and personality.

c. Fruits-Thought like fruits that is the products from seed if the thought are good for sure they will produced good result but if the thought are Bad they will in turn produced bad fruits, Because what a sow is what a man reap. In my own life what I think on the most I see myself naturally going after those things cause the fruits have to be in line with those thought that are in my mind, except I got rid of the thought.

d. What men are-What a man thinks is what he become, As he continue to think same ,so he remain, Where he is today is the result of his thought. All my life I have always seen myself as a gentleman may not a perfect one, but a fine gentle man, because of this thought I have learn to shape my life to match the thought in my mind and I have been and still living with it.

e. Alter one thought-If a man can alter his thought he can change the circumstance of life and reshape his destiny, The poor man is poor because he thinks he is poor, the rich man is rich because of his thinking, A man cannot change his thought and not change his life, either for good or for bad. Personally I have experienced this the moments I change my thinking a whole lots change for me, my life took a turn for better, That is was when I know that thoughts are powerful and have the capacity to take anybody to the pinnacle. Since then guards the thought that come into my mind and think what I want to think not what anybody wants me to think irrespective of who they are.

f. Body is the servant of the mind-This is very true because the moments the thought from the mind impress it upon the body that it is weak, automatically the body becomes weak, the body will always obey the mind been the master because whatever thought proceed out of the mind the body helps to carry it out .My personal experience I was to, carry a very heavy load it was night and there was nobody close by to lend a helping hand, I thought to myself that I should be able to carry it myself, suddenly the strength came upon me I was able to carry the load all by myself.

g. As he thinks, so is he.-what a man thinks about all the time is what he get, if a man think he is poor, he will be poor, if a man think failure he will fail in any venture even before he start, there is a way the environment and the things around it work in favor of a man’s thinking to get the right result. I am a products of my thinking and because I want the best for myself and the people around me all the time I keep positive thoughts whenever the negative thoughts come into my mind I quickly get rid of it as soon as possible, if a man in good condition of health thinks he is sick, he will eventually fall sick and even die, That the reason man is what he thinks.

3. How will these ideas or lessons help you in a practical way, both in your daily personal life and in helping you to create a better world? If so, how?

The ideas or lessons in this book is going to help me practically in the sense that I will have to internalized it, look within me and implement this lesson in my daily life inculcate in the youths, and in helping to create a better world, The lessons I have learn in this book will add to what I already know and I will always advice people around me to think on what they want to get out of life and not what other people makes them think, and they should always think positive to get positive result. Because the mind is the greatest mining filed it is important for me to teach people to allowed positive thoughts to flow into their minds so that the result positive result. When this measure is put in place even in the face of smilingly difficult situation the product of a positive seed would be a fruitful result and this will surely crate a better world for us all. I will teach people, who will in turn teach other people this time -proven life principles so that the world would be better for it.

4. Quotes: Are there any statements which the author made that particularly got your attention? If so, please quote them and comment as to why they were important to you.

“The body is the servant of the mind. It obeys the operations of the mind, whether they be deliberately chosen or automatically expressed. At the bidding of unlawful thought the body sinks rapidly into disease and decay; at the command of glad and beautiful thoughts it become clothed with youthfulness and beauty.”

The quotation above in page sixteen particularly got my attention and it is important to me because the body is the servant of the mind which means the mind is the master of the body, that is the reason when a healthy person says that he\she is sick the body in obedience to the mind become sick, weather the person is joking is immaterial the body must obey, Even when a rich person consider himself /herself poor the person become poor everything around the person becomes poor even the weather, the atmospheric condition of the day, everything around. On the other hand when a person allowed beautiful thoughts, successful thoughts, and positive thoughts, the inner beauty radiates outside the body even the sick person become healthy glowing gracefully with happiness and everything around the person becomes successful and life becomes beautiful. This one of the reason some people looks younger than their age cause they are always excited about life and they allowed positive thoughts through their mind.

5. Is there anything in the book that you do not understand or are unclear about, or are there ideas which you disagree with and, if so, why?

The statement on page eight is what I do not understand when the Author said that Every man is where he is by the law of being, the thoughts which he has build into his character brought him there and the other one is on page ten, That said a man does not get what he wish or prayed for, But what he justly earn, As a Christian I believed that sometime we do not get what we really expect or work very hard for, but that which the creator(God)has chosen for us, And sometimes we get what we don’t deserve perhaps we have not prepare well enough but the grace from God just grant us that unmerited favors which is even the more reason we pray to God, from the statements above is the Author ignoring the power of divinity? Does it mean that all that man archive or were everyman is found is as a result of his own effort alone? I need to be clear on this.

List these seven ideas followed by an explanation after each one as to why it was important to you. Use personal examples from your own life.

a. Food: That it is not only food that matters in our daily living.

b. Learning: We should not be Ashamed to learn what we need to learn for our own development.

c. Ignorance -We can lift ourselves out of ignorance, and find ourselves as creatures of excellence and intelligence and skill.

d. Life purpose -We can be more responsible when we find and follow a meaning, and higher purpose for life.

5. Love – We needs to practice love and see the love in every one of us.

6. Freedom to be our self -We have the freedom to be our self, our true self, here and now, and nothing can stand in our way.

7. We will have support-Even when you are considered has an outcast because of your Ideas some people will still support you and your Ideas.

These Seven Ideas that I got from this book was very important to me because base on personal Experience I have tested Hunger and still I have to carry on as if all was well because Life it’s self is worth more than Food.

Every day of my life I committed to learning because Knowledge is potential power and when I apply it in my Life I become powerful, That the reason am not ashamed to humble myself to learn even from my younger ones. The moment one stop learning the person starts dying.

Living in Ignorant is the worst thing that can Happen to a person, I personally make sure that I update myself with the Happening around me and the world at large as this help me to develop myself and add value to living knowing that God has giving me the potential to create my own world first from my Imagination and bring it into reality, though there is a popular saying that “curious city kills the cat” I think it’s is better for that cat to die knowledgeable that to live in Ignorant.

When I know my life purpose here on earth I will try to live my life to fulfill that purpose which the creator created me for, other than living against or that which negate my purpose, I believe when we know our purpose here on earth we will live a better life so as to fulfill that purpose before we die.

Love makes the world go round God is love and as a creature of God I must learn to love everybody around me so that the world will be at Peace. I extend my love beyond my immediate environment.

I was born free, therefore I have to be free to be myself not to be someone else or pretend or act some else script if I do that it’s means am not free, even if am walking the on the street free.

There was a time I came up with an idea in our organization, they gave me thousand of reason why it will not work, But when I start to implement it, they saw how it works, they join me in it. I believed that no matter how many people condemned my ideas, I will still get people that will support me in carrying out my ideas as far as it’s going to add value to Humanity, when people don’t understand your ideas for the first time you will be criticized after you are through they will then give you the needed support and before you know it you become an authority in your line of practice or carrier, It is very normal for people to condemn and discard other people’s ideas, but when we believed in that ideas and put it into practice and it work we then gain the support of others. personally even if I seek the opinion of others before I carry out any project I don’t allowed to them to talk me out of what I believe in, I think the important thing is to believed in one’s ability and because we have the power to archive whatever we can imagine or envision, we have the capacity to bring it to life.

3. How will these ideas or lessons help you in a practical way, both in your daily personal life and in helping you to create a better world? If so, how?

The ideas or lessons in this book is going to help me practically in the sense that I will have to internalized it look within me and implement this lesson in my daily life inculcate in the youths, and in helping to create a better world, I will teach people, who will in turn teach other people this time -proven life principles so that the world we be better for it.

4. Quotes: Are there any statements which the author made that particularly got your attention? If so, please quote them and comment as to why they were important to you.

“ I don’t mind been bone and feathers Mom; I just want to know what I can do in the air and what I can’t, that is all; I just want to know.”

The quotation above in page three particularly got my attention and it is important to me because when a person is embarking on self-discovery people will say all kinds of thing to discourage and distract you, the respond Jonathan Livingston Seagull gave his mom here should that he was determined for self discovery to be at the top and not to die at the bottom, A man will never know what he can do until he try. So many of us always give excuses for not archiving great success, not because we cannot archive it ,but because we fail to try, that is the reason books like is very encouraging to give us that push we need to excel and to propel us and help us build the ‘Can Do Spirit’ character in us.

5. Is there anything in the book that you do not understand or are unclear about, or are there ideas which you disagree with and, if so, why?

I was not really clear about the statement below, Is there no such place as heaven?” “No, Jonathan, there is no such place. Heaven is not a place, and it is not a time. Heaven is being perfect. This was not very clear to me, where they actually in heaven or was it in their imagination? The Author did not paint a clearer picture here concerning heaven. Could it be he was trying to tell us that any perfect situation or condition is Heaven?

6. Did the book contain exercises for the reader to complete? If so, did you complete all of the exercises and did you find them helpful?

Yes, I did, that is what understanding the book is all about, that is completing the exercises.

7. Was there anything you read in the book that you would like to comment on that was not covered in the previous questions? If so, please comment.
