Mduduzi Adrian Mirimi – Assessments

As a Man Thinketh
Assessment by Mduduzi Adrian Mirimi (South Africa)

1. What is the main idea that the author is trying to convey in the book?

In As a Man Thinketh, James Allen presents the powerful idea that thoughts create reality. He conveys that the circumstances we experience in life are a direct reflection of the state of our mind. The central message of the book revolves around the importance of controlling and refining our thoughts because, whether consciously or unconsciously, our thoughts shape the world around us. If we allow negative or chaotic thoughts to dominate our minds, we will likely experience adverse circumstances. On the other hand, if we intentionally nurture positive, constructive thoughts, our lives will reflect harmony and success.

This idea is relevant in today’s fast-paced world, where many external factors seem beyond our control. This book reminds us that while we may not always control external events, we can control our inner world, and by doing so, we ultimately shape our experiences. For example, if a person is faced with adversity, they can choose to view it as a failure or as an opportunity for growth. The outcome of the situation depends largely on their mindset. This concept empowers individuals to take responsibility for their lives, offering hope that they can overcome challenges through mental discipline and intentional positive thinking.

Allen’s philosophy is not only empowering in a physical sense, but also deeply spiritual. He suggests that by mastering our thoughts, we align ourselves with a higher power or the laws of the universe. This alignment leads to a life of purpose, peace, and fulfillment. Thus, the book serves as a guide for both personal development and spiritual growth, teaching that the mind is the key to unlocking our highest potential.

2. What were the seven ideas which were personally most important to you and why? List these seven ideas followed by an explanation after each one as to why it was important to you. Use personal examples from your own life.

i. Mind Creates Reality.

This idea is fundamental because it reminds me that I have the power to shape my life. Instead of feeling like a victim of circumstance, I can take charge by consciously guiding my thoughts in a positive direction. For instance, when I was trying to launch my brand (Dimension) and encountered setbacks, I initially felt discouraged. However, by shifting my mindset and focusing on the opportunities that these challenges presented, I was able to see progress where there once seemed to be obstacles. This principle has taught me that my reality is a direct reflection of my mindset.

ii. We Create Through Thoughts.

The notion that we are constantly creating our future through the thoughts we cultivate resonates with me. It reminds me of the importance of setting clear intentions and being mindful of the thought patterns I indulge in. I’ve seen how, when I focus on a specific goal with intention and belief, my actions naturally align with that vision, and opportunities begin to present themselves. For example, in my trading career, when I concentrate on success and visualize achieving my goals, I find myself motivated to take actionable steps, and success follows. This principle inspires me to take more control of my mental landscape and use it as a tool for creation.

iii. Circumstance is a Direct Reflection of Thought.

This idea has made me more aware about how my thoughts create the conditions around me. Allen’s view that our outer circumstances mirror our internal thoughts has helped me understand that whenever I face difficult situations, the root cause often lies within my thinking. I’ve noticed that when I’m focused on fear or doubt, I tend to attract situations that reinforce those feelings. On the other hand, when I approach life with optimism and confidence, positive circumstances seem to unfold naturally. This has been a key lesson in personal responsibility and has motivated me to be more intentional about maintaining positive, empowering thoughts.

iv. Tending to the Mind’s Garden.

Allen’s analogy of the mind as a garden that requires constant tending resonated deeply with me. Just as a garden needs care, watering, and weeding to flourish, our minds need to be nurtured with positive, growth-oriented thoughts. I’ve seen how allowing negative thoughts to take root can lead to feelings of overwhelm and stagnation, whereas regularly practicing gratitude and mindfulness has kept my mind healthy and vibrant. This metaphor has reminded me of the ongoing nature of self-care. It’s not a one-time effort, but a daily practice of cultivating positivity and removing mental clutter that could hinder my growth.

v. Effect of Thought on Health and the Body.

I have experienced firsthand how thoughts affect my physical well-being. During stressful times, I’ve noticed that my body reacts negatively I feel tension in my muscles and stomach, I sleep poorly, and I’m more lethargic. Allen’s assertion that the body responds to the state of the mind has encouraged me to pay closer attention to my mental health. By managing stress and focusing on calm, peaceful thoughts, I’ve been able to improve not only my mental clarity but also my overall health. This idea has reinforced the importance of practicing mindfulness and meditation to maintain both mental and physical health.

vi. Thought and Purpose.

Allen highlights the importance of aligning thought with purpose, a concept that has been transformative for me. Having a clear sense of purpose gives my thoughts direction and clarity. I’ve found that when I’m clear about my goals and my purpose, my thoughts naturally align with the actions needed to achieve those goals. When I was uncertain about my life’s direction, I felt scattered and unproductive. However, once I defined my purpose, my thoughts became more focused, and I was able to make significant progress in areas that once felt out of reach. This idea has given me a sense of empowerment, knowing that purpose-driven thoughts lead to purposeful action.

vii. Power of Choice in Thought.

The power to choose my thoughts has been a revelation. It’s easy to fall into the trap of thinking that our emotions and thoughts are reactions we can’t control, but Allen reminds us that we have the power to choose our thoughts in every moment. This has been a significant realization for me, especially in challenging situations. Instead of reacting impulsively or allowing negative thoughts to dominate, I now pause and intentionally choose thoughts that align with my values and desired outcomes. This concept has made a profound difference in my relationships and personal well-being, as I now approach conflicts or setbacks with a calm and constructive mindset.

3. How will these ideas or lessons help you in a practical way, both in your daily personal life and in helping you to create a better world?

The lessons have given me practical tools to purify my mind and direct my thoughts toward creating a better version of myself and the world around me. By becoming more aware of my thoughts, I can consciously shift my mental focus away from negativity and toward constructive, positive thinking. This practice has already helped me cultivate a more peaceful and productive mindset in my daily life.

Moreover, these ideas have helped me identify the root causes of circumstances, not just in myself but in those around me. By observing the thoughts and behaviors of others, I’ll be able to offer guidance and support, helping them realize the impact of their mental state on their experiences. This knowledge empowers me to contribute to creating a more positive environment for others. In my work and personal life, I strive to create spaces where people are encouraged to focus on constructive thinking, and I’ve noticed that this often leads to improved communication, problem-solving, and overall well-being.

In a broader sense, applying these lessons to help others purify their minds and direct their thoughts towards positive outcomes has the potential to contribute to a more harmonious world. When individuals recognize that their thoughts shape their reality, they are more likely to take responsibility for their actions, leading to a collective shift toward greater positivity and cooperation in society.

4. Quotes: Are there any statements which the author made that particularly got your attention? If so, please quote them and comment as to why they were important to you.

“As a Man Thinketh in his heart, so is he.”
This statement is a foundational principle of the book, and it resonated with me because it points to the deeper truth that our true character is shaped by what we harbor in our hearts. A pure heart, filled with love and positive intent, naturally manifests in a life filled with purpose and meaning. This has been an important reminder to keep my heart and thoughts aligned with the values I wish to embody. Whenever I struggle with doubt or fear, I return to this quote and remind myself that my thoughts determine who I am becoming.

“By the right choice and true application of thought, the human ascends to the Divine Perfection; by the abuse and wrong application of thought, he descends below the level of the beast.”

This quote highlights the stark contrast between divine and animalistic tendencies in humans, emphasizing the importance of thought in determining which path we choose. It resonates with me because it reinforces the power of conscious choice. In every moment, I can choose to align with my higher self or fall prey to negative thinking. This quote reminds me that my thoughts are powerful tools for either elevating my consciousness or pulling me into negativity.

“As the reaper of his own harvest, man learns both by suffering and bliss.”

This statement, for me, reflects the dual nature of life and how both positive and negative experiences offer valuable lessons. It reminds me that even in difficult times, there is something to be learned. I’ve found that embracing both suffering and bliss as part of the learning process has helped me grow in resilience and wisdom. Instead of viewing challenges as purely negative, I now see them as opportunities for growth, which has brought a greater sense of peace and acceptance into my life.

“Men are anxious to improve their circumstances, but are unwilling to improve themselves; they therefore remain bound.”

This quote speaks to the importance of self-transformation as the key to improving our external circumstances. Many people, myself included at times, focus on changing their environment or blaming external factors for their struggles, without realizing that real change must begin within. When I’ve been stuck in situations I didn’t like, I often looked for ways to alter the outside world, but this quote has taught me that the only true path to change is by improving my thoughts and actions. By working on myself first, I’ve seen how my circumstances naturally begin to shift in alignment with my internal growth. This quote is a powerful reminder that self-improvement is the foundation of all lasting change.

5. Is there anything in the book that you do not understand or are unclear about, or are there ideas which you disagree with and, if so, why?

One of the ideas I struggle with is the notion that “a particular train of thought persisted in, be it good or bad, cannot fail to produce its results on the character and circumstances.” While I understand and agree with the principle that thoughts shape our reality, I wonder whether it is truly possible to stay tuned only to good thoughts, given the dual nature of the world. We live in a reality that contains both light and darkness, positivity and negativity, and it seems almost impossible to avoid experiencing some negative thoughts or circumstances at times.

For instance, in my own life, I have gone through periods where I consciously directed my thoughts towards positivity and growth, but I still encountered setbacks or challenges. This raises the question: Is it realistic to believe that we can completely avoid negativity? Or is it more about learning how to manage our responses to negative experiences and using them as catalysts for growth? Allen’s philosophy encourages an unwavering focus on positivity, but life’s duality makes me question whether we can truly live in harmony with only positive experiences, without acknowledging the lessons that come from negative ones.

6. Did the book contain exercises for the reader to complete? If so, did you complete all of the exercises and did you find them helpful?

The book did not contain specific exercises for the reader to complete, but it offers a wealth of practical wisdom that can be applied to everyday life. Although there were no formal activities, I found that the book itself was a call to action—to become more mindful of one’s thoughts and to take control of one’s mental state. In this sense, the entire book can be seen as a form of mental exercise, encouraging readers to consistently reflect on and refine their thinking patterns.

7. Was there anything you read in the book that you would like to comment on that was not covered in the previous questions?

One additional takeaway that I found particularly impactful is the emphasis on personal accountability. Allen’s teachings emphasize that we are entirely responsible for our own thoughts, emotions, and the resulting circumstances in our lives. This is both liberating and daunting, as it removes the ability to blame others or external situations for our problems. It places the full power of creation in our hands.

For me, this concept has been a profound reminder of the power of self-awareness. It has encouraged me to stop looking for external solutions to internal problems and instead focus on improving my mental landscape. By taking full responsibility for my thoughts and their impact on my life, I’ve been able to break free from the mindset of victimhood and step into a more empowered way of living. This sense of accountability has also fostered greater discipline, as I now recognize that the quality of my life depends on the quality of my thoughts.

Jonathan Livingston Seagull
Assessment by Mduduzi Adrian Mirimi (South Africa)

1 What is the main idea that the author is trying to convey in the book?

At its core, the main idea the author conveys is the notion of overcoming societal limitations to pursue one’s true passion and potential. Jonathan’s unwavering love for flying sets him apart from his peers, who view flight merely as a basic function for survival. His relentless pursuit of excellence in flight challenges the conventional wisdom of his seagull community, which prioritizes conformity and adherence to established norms.

Jonathan’s journey is a metaphor for individuality and the quest for personal fulfillment. By daring to follow his passion for flight, he confronts the restrictive boundaries imposed by society and embarks on a transformative odyssey of self-discovery. Through his perseverance and determination, Jonathan transcends the limitations of his environment and unlocks the boundless possibilities that lie beyond the confines of conventional thinking.

The story highlights the importance of embracing one’s unique talents and aspirations, even in the face of opposition. Jonathan’s unwavering commitment to his dreams serves as a powerful reminder that true fulfillment comes from aligning oneself with one’s deepest passions and desires, rather than conforming to external expectations.

Moreover, Jonathan’s journey resonated with me as a tale of courage, resilience, and the pursuit of excellence. His quest for self-realization inspired me to challenge the status quo, break free from societal constraints, and strive for personal growth and fulfillment. Ultimately the story is a timeless testament to the transformative power of following one’s heart and embracing the limitless potential that resides within each of us.

2. What were the seven ideas which were personally most important to you and why? List these seven ideas followed by an explanation after each one as to why it was important to you. Use personal examples from your own life.

i. Being told to settle and not follow your passions

Much like Jonathan being advised to conform to the ordinary life of a seagull, I too faced pressure to abandon my passions for creating and trading in favor of pursuing a more conventional path for financial security. Despite the external pressure, I refused to stifle my creative instincts and continued to pursue my interests, recognizing that true fulfillment lies in following one’s passions rather than succumbing to societal expectations.

For instance, when I expressed my desire to pursue a career in art and trading the financial markets, many well-meaning individuals cautioned me about the uncertainty and financial instability of such a path. However, I remained steadfast in my conviction to follow my passion, knowing deep down that compromising on my dreams would only lead to a life of regret and unfulfilled potential.

ii. Being mocked or belittled for following passion instead of monetary gains

Similar to Jonathan’s experience of being ridiculed for aspiring to soar higher, I encountered skepticism and criticism for prioritizing my passions over financial pursuits. The journey of pursuing my creative interests was often met with skepticism and doubt from others who couldn’t comprehend the intrinsic value of following one’s passion. However, I remained steadfast in my belief that genuine fulfillment comes from pursuing what truly ignites my soul, regardless of external judgment.

I vividly recall instances where friends and family members questioned my decision to prioritize my passion for trading and art over pursuing a more traditional career path. Despite the doubters, I remained resolute in my pursuit, drawing strength from the negative inputs much alike Jonathan’s unwavering determination to follow his dreams against all odds. Each year passes and i just get better and better in all my abilities.

iii. Spending time in solitude to harness beliefs

Like Jonathan’s solitary journey allowed him to cultivate his beliefs, my periods of solitude provided me with invaluable opportunities for introspection and self-discovery. Amidst the solitude, I found the space to refine my beliefs and values, free from external influences and distractions. This solitude became a sanctuary for nurturing my creative spirit and strengthening my resolve to stay true to my authentic self, despite societal pressures.

During moments of solitude, I often found clarity and perspective that eluded me in the hustle and bustle of daily life. Whether through journaling, meditation, or simply spending time in nature, these moments of introspection allowed me to connect with my innermost desires and aspirations, guiding me on a path of personal growth and self-realization.

iv. Experiencing rejection from the community

Much like Jonathan faced rejection from his community for daring to pursue his passion, I too encountered resistance and rejection from friends and peers who couldn’t comprehend my unconventional approach to life. This sense of alienation and disapproval only strengthened my resolve to stay true to myself, even if it meant standing alone against the tide of conformity. Embracing my identity as an outsider empowered me to forge my own path and cultivate a community of like-minded individuals who shared my passion for creativity and self-expression.

I remember the initial skepticism and disapproval I faced when I decided to start my own business in a niche market that many considered unprofitable both in trading and art. Despite the doubts, I remained committed to my vision, eventually finding success and validation within a community of fellow entrepreneurs who appreciated my unique perspective and approach. Who in turn assisted me to gain new perspectives and techniques to use in order to succeed in my abilities.

v. Learning and growing in solitude

In moments of solitude, akin to Jonathan’s solitary exploration of flight. I too experienced profound personal growth and transformation in isolation. Away from the noise of societal expectations, I delved deeper into my creative pursuits and unearthed hidden talents and insights that expanded my understanding of myself and the world around me. These solitary moments became catalysts for spiritual awakening and self-discovery, enriching my life with newfound depth and purpose.

It is the solitude that challenged me both physically and emotionally. However, it was in those moments of quiet reflection that I gained a deeper appreciation for the interconnectedness of all things and discovered a sense of inner peace and resilience that continues to shape my worldview to this day.

vi.. Discovering a like-minded community

Just as Jonathan encountered a tribe of like-minded gulls who shared his passion for flying. In my own personal journey, I stumbled upon a community of individuals whose values and aspirations resonated deeply with my own. This serendipitous encounter with fellow creatives and spiritual seekers provided me with a sense of belonging and camaraderie, reaffirming my belief in the power of community to nurture personal growth and collective evolution.

I recall the profound sense of belonging I experienced when I attended an online workshop hosted by a profound artist and creator “Virgil Abloh” who shared my passion for self-expression through various artforms. Connecting with individuals who understood and appreciated my creative vision was incredibly validating, inspiring me to continue pursuing my passions with renewed vigor and enthusiasm.

vii. Committing to personal growth and excellence

Much like Jonathan’s relentless pursuit of mastery in flight, I embarked on a journey of self-improvement and self-actualization, determined to unleash my full creative potential and make a positive impact on the world. Like Jonathan’s unwavering dedication to becoming the best flying gull, I am committed to pushing beyond perceived limitations and striving for excellence in my creative endeavors, fueled by a deep sense of purpose and passion for personal growth.

For example, when faced with setbacks or challenges in my artistic and trading pursuits, I had similar mindset compared to Jonathan’s perseverance and resilience, reminding myself that true mastery requires dedication and perseverance. By committing to a lifelong journey of learning and growth, I strive to cultivate excellence in every aspect of my life, knowing that the pursuit of excellence is not just about achieving perfection but about embracing the process of continual improvement and self-discovery.

PsychoCybernetics
Assessment by Mduduzi Adrian Mirimi (South Africa)

1. What is the main idea that the author is trying to convey in the book?

The main idea of Psycho-Cybernetics by Maxwell Maltz is that true satisfaction and success come not from external changes but from transforming our internal self-image. Dr. Maltz, a plastic surgeon, observed that many of his patients, despite undergoing life changing surgeries, still felt dissatisfied because their internal self perception hadn’t changed.

He emphasizes that our mind functions like a servo-mechanism, a goal-seeking device, which can be programmed to achieve success or failure based on how we perceive ourselves. By harnessing the power of visualization and self-affirmation, individuals can reprogram their subconscious to create a positive self-image, leading to lasting fulfillment and success. Maltz combines psychology and personal growth techniques to show how a healthy self-image can be the foundation of a more meaningful and productive life.

2. What are the seven ideas which are personally most important in the book and why? List these, seven ideas followed by an explanation after each one as to why it was important to you. Use personal examples from your own life.

i. The Role of the Servo-Mechanism

This concept resonated deeply with me because it explains how aligning our goals with our self-image activates our inner “success mechanism” to guide us toward achieving them. It has practical implications for my trading and creative projects, where focus and alignment are crucial. Understanding this mechanism provides a framework for purposeful action to take place.

ii. Inner Confidence Over External Changes

The story of plastic surgery patients feeling the same soon after surgery emphasized that true confidence stems from within. It reminds me of how I’ve often sought external validation rather than building inner belief, particularly in moments of financial struggle. This idea encourages me to look inward for long-term peace and self-assurance, fostering resilience and confidence that does not depend on outside circumstances.

iii. Visualization and Mental Rehearsal

The idea that the mind cannot distinguish between real and vividly imagined experiences was a revelation for me. Applying visualization techniques could help me build confidence in trading and music production by rehearsing success results in my mind. It’s a powerful tool to shift from self-doubt to self-belief.

iv. Self-Forgiveness

Dr. Maltz’s discussion on letting go of past mistakes hit the spot for me. I often dwell on past failures, but forgiving myself is essential to move forward. This lesson empowers me to focus on progress rather than perfection, reducing the weight of guilt and self-criticism. Thus allowing myself space to grow despite making mistakes.

v. Stop Letting External Events Dominate

The emphasis on not letting outside circumstances control happiness aligns perfectly with my current situation. I’ve been learning to detach from external challenges like financial and relationship struggles, to focusing on internal peace. This shift is critical for maintaining balance and clarity during stressful periods. Giving space for taking action without being bogged down by negative external events. Meaning i can operate the same, during struggles and times of joy and abundance.

vi. Building Success Through Practice

Maltz’s analogy of building success through consistent practice rather than relying on perfection is crucial. It’s a lesson I can apply to my Trading, artwork and music production. Focusing on steady improvement rather than instantaneous success is both motivating and realistic.

vii. The “Happiness Habit”

The idea that happiness is a habit and not a result of external factors deeply resonated with me. It’s a practical reminder that I can choose to be happy regardless of circumstances. Cultivating this habit will enrich my life and enable me to contribute positively to others.

3. How will these ideas or lessons help you in a practical way, both in your daily personal life and in helping you to create a better world?

Servo-Mechanism: By setting clear goals and aligning my self-image with them, I can make consistent progress in trading and creative pursuits. Practically, this means journaling my daily goals and celebrating small victories. It also encourages me to focus on the process rather than solely on outcomes.

Inner Confidence: Focusing on building inner belief will help me remain resilient, even when external circumstances are tough. I can practice affirmations and reflect on past successes to strengthen my self-esteem. This approach will allow me to approach challenges with greater confidence and peace.

Visualization: Practicing visualization techniques daily can help me mentally rehearse success in trading and music. This will reduce anxiety and build confidence in my abilities. By vividly imagining positive outcomes, I can reprogram my subconscious for success.

Self-Forgiveness: Letting go of past mistakes will free me from guilt and allow me to focus on future growth. I will practice writing down past mistakes and actively forgiving myself as part of my journaling process. This will help me build emotional resilience and maintain a forward-looking mindset.

Detaching from External Events: I will remind myself not to take external challenges personally and focus on what I can control. This mindset will enable me to stay calm and productive, even during financial hardships. It’s a practice that will enhance my emotional stability and decision-making.

Consistent Practice: Committing to a routine of uploading YouTube videos, journaling trades, and working on music will help me improve over time without the pressure of perfection. Consistency will become the foundation for long-term success and growth.

Happiness Habit: By choosing to focus on gratitude and positivity daily, I can cultivate happiness regardless of my circumstances. This will allow me to inspire others through my work and create a ripple effect of positivity. A joyful attitude will also strengthen my relationships and personal well-being.

4. Quotes: Are there any statements which the author made that particularly got your attention? If so, please quote them and comment as to why they were important to you.

“Stop letting things push you around.”

This is a powerful reminder to take control of my emotions and not let external circumstances dictate my peace. It encourages personal accountability for happiness and resilience.

“Happiness is a habit; cultivate it.”

It shifted my perspective on happiness from being a destination, to a daily choice, motivating me to focus on gratitude and joy. This concept has the potential to transform my outlook on life.

“You are not your mistakes.”

This statement encourages self-forgiveness and reminds me that my value is not defined by past failures. It’s a liberating idea that fosters self-compassion.

“The mind cannot tell the difference between a real experience and one vividly imagined.”

This highlights the power of visualization and inspires me to use it as a tool for building confidence. It underscores the importance of mental preparation. This technique is very useful in preparing myself mentally for completing my tasks successfully, ultimately enabling me to manifest my desired mental state and reality.

“You can’t drive forward while looking in the rearview mirror.”

This metaphor speaks to the importance of focusing on the future rather than dwelling on past mistakes. It’s a reminder to stay present and forward-thinking. Many times I find myself being paralyzed by past mistakes, hindering actionable steps i need to take in the present to reach my goals. This enables me not only to cultivate self compassion, but have compassion for others mistakes as well. Thus making no room for guilt and resentment in my heart.

5. Is there anything in the book that you do not understand or are unclear about, or are there ideas which you disagree with and, if so, why?

While the book provides valuable insights, some concepts like the “automatic failure mechanism,” felt a bit abstract. I would appreciate more practical examples to clarify how to recognize and deactivate it. Additionally, while I agree with the focus on self-image, I believe external circumstances still hold some influence, especially for individuals facing systemic challenges. A discussion of these dynamics would enhance the book’s applicability and influence in more lives.

6. Did the book contain exercises for the reader to complete? If so, did you complete all of the exercises and did you find them helpful?

Yes, the book includes exercises like visualization and affirmations. I’ve started practicing visualization by imagining successful trades and positive outcomes in my creative projects. These exercises have been helpful in reducing anxiety and building confidence. Additionally, I’ve been experimenting with self-affirmations to reinforce a positive self-image, and this practice has been uplifting to myself and my soul.

7. Was there anything you read in the book that you would like to comment on that was not covered in the previous questions?

One concept I found intriguing was “The Theatre of the Mind,” where you mentally rehearse scenarios as if you were watching a movie. This aligns with my creative side and inspires me to use storytelling techniques to envision success in all areas of life.

Additionally, the emphasis on focusing on the present moment reminded me of the importance of mindfulness in achieving clarity and peace. These insights highlight the interplay between imagination and presence in cultivating a fulfilling life.

Success through a Positive Mental Attitude
Assessment by Mduduzi Mirimi (South Africa)

1. What is the main idea that the author is trying to convey in the book?

The central idea of Success Through a Positive Mental Attitude revolves around the transformative power of positive thinking. The authors, Napoleon Hill and W. Clement Stone, emphasize that a Positive Mental Attitude (PMA) is the key to overcoming obstacles and achieving success in all aspects of life. They doubled-down that the mind, when directed positively, can harness the power of faith, determination, and persistence to bring about desired results. The book is filled with real-life examples of individuals who have used PMA to overcome life’s complexities, illustrating that our thoughts shape our reality.

This concept resonates deeply with me because, throughout my journey, I have seen the effects of having both positive and negative mindsets. When I approach trading, music production, or content creation with a positive optimistic mindset, I tend to achieve better results. Conversely, self-doubt and negative thoughts have often hindered my progress. The book reinforces the idea that our mental state determines our success, and by consistently practicing PMA, we can unlock our full potential

2. What were the seven ideas which were personally most important to you and why? List these seven ideas followed by an explanation after each one as to why it was important to you. Use personal examples from your own life.

i. God is Good All the Time

This idea stood out to me because it highlights the ever-present goodness of God, even in challenging times. There have been moments when I felt lost, especially in my financial struggles and uncertainty about my career path. However, I have always found that trusting in God’s plan brings peace and clarity. Even when things don’t go as expected, His goodness remains constant. Recognizing this truth allows me to remain hopeful and persistent in my pursuits at all times.

ii. Seeking Divine Guidance

The book emphasizes the importance of seeking divine guidance in all aspects of life. This principle has become imperative in my decision-making process. For instance, when I was unsure about whether to continue trading or focus on content creation, I turned to prayer for direction. Seeking divine wisdom has always helped me find clarity, reinforcing the belief that God’s plan is always superior to my own.

iii. Going the Extra Mile

Success is often achieved by those who are willing to do more than what is required. In my personal life, I have noticed that when I go beyond the bare minimum, whether in learning new trading strategies, improving my music production skills or refining my content creation; the rewards are significantly greater. The principle of going the extra mile reminds me that true success comes from relentless effort, dedication and improvement.

iv. The Cosmic Habit Force

The book explains that habits shape our lives, whether positive or negative. Developing good habits through discipline and repetition ensures long-term success. This concept made me realize that my inconsistent habits in trading and music production have hindered my progress. By intentionally cultivating productive routines, I can align my actions with my goals and ultimately achieve better results.

v. The Mental Cobwebs

The authors discuss how “mental cobwebs;” negative thoughts, doubts and fears can prevent success. I have experienced this firsthand when self-doubt led me to exit trades too early or second-guess my creative instincts. By consciously clearing my mind of limiting beliefs and focusing on positive affirmations, I can maintain a clear path toward my goals.

vi. Emphasis on Starting with Self

The book emphasizes that success begins with self-improvement. This lesson has been crucial in my journey, as I often felt frustrated about external circumstances rather than focusing on self-growth. By working on my skills, discipline, and mindset, I have realized that external success naturally follows.

vii. Never Be Ashamed to Fail

Fear of failure has often held me back from taking bold steps. The book taught me that failure is simply a stepping stone to success. Whether in trading, music, or business, every setback is an opportunity to learn and improve. Embracing failure with a positive mindset allows me to take calculated risks without the fear of failure.

4. Quotes: Are there any statements which the author made that particularly got your attention? If so, please quote them and comment as to why they were important to you.

“Day by day, in every respect, I am getting better and better.”

This quote deeply resonated with me, especially in my trading journey. It hammers the idea of daily improvement, no matter how small. In my process of honing my trading skills, I often feel like I’m not progressing as quickly as I’d like, especially after losses or when I don’t reach my targets. But this quote serves as a reminder that each day is an opportunity to get better, and every trade, whether successful or not, is part of the growth process. By practicing autosuggestion, I remind myself that I am improving step by step, reinforcing the mindset that I can always get better at what I do.

“What the mind of man can conceive and believe, the mind of man can achieve through PMA.”

This quote speaks directly to my journey as a trader. I have always believed that if I can visualize my success, then I can achieve it. I think about reaching my $100+ goal and scaling my account, and I know that it’s achievable as long as I believe in it and stay focused. PMA, or Positive Mental Attitude, gives me the strength to keep moving forward even when things are tough. This quote reminds me that my success is only limited by what I believe is possible, and by consistently believing in my vision, I can achieve my goals.

“Direct your thoughts, control your emotions, and ordain your destiny.”

In trading, controlling emotions is a constant challenge for me, especially when I experience fear of loss or get stopped out before hitting my target. This quote encourages me to stay mindful of my thoughts and emotions. It reminds me that I have the power to choose how I react, which directly influences the outcomes in my trading and in life. When I focus on directing my thoughts positively and controlling my emotions, I can stay in alignment with my goals and keep my mindset strong, regardless of external circumstances.

“We are masters of our fate because we are masters, first, of our attitudes.”

This quote has been particularly important to me as I work to develop my edge in trading. I know that my success is determined by my attitude. Even when I compare myself to others or feel discouraged after a few losses, I realize that I am in control of how I react to these challenges. By maintaining a positive attitude, I can overcome setbacks and stay focused on my long-term goals. This quote serves as a reminder that the key to mastering my trading journey is mastering my attitude first.

“It is not what you are that holds you back; it’s what you think you are not.”

This quote speaks to the limiting beliefs I sometimes have about myself, especially in moments of doubt. When I face challenges in my trading or compare myself to others, I sometimes feel like I’m not good enough or that I’m too far behind in my journey. But this quote reminds me that it’s not my actual capabilities that hold me back; it’s the beliefs I have about what I think I lack. Overcoming these limiting beliefs is essential for me to reach my full potential. By shifting my mindset and believing in my ability to succeed, I can break free from self-imposed limitations and achieve greater success.
