Please describe your vision of a world that works for everyone.
My vision of a world that works for everyone, is a world where people love each other unfettered by geographical, political and religious boundaries. A world where people have access to education and enlightenment at equal fair chances will greatly appeal to me. I’d very much appreciate a world where the basic necessities of life; security, air, food, water, clothes, shelter are not luxuries to some. And even better, will be a world where everyone can dream and humanity awakes to its full potential – where every individual discovers his/her personal super power and wields it to the betterment of another human.
What do you see as the most pressing problems facing the world today?
What I consider the most pressing problem facing the world today is illiteracy. A large number of the human population still cannot access decent education. While this is largely tied to other global issues like poverty, hunger, wars, etc., the consequences of high illiteracy rates are a worse nightmare. Because when illiteracy increases, so does unemployment, crime, hunger, violence, etc. Literacy plays a huge role in overall human existence. And it has little to do with “just going to school.” Thankfully, there are now lots of ways people can educate themselves outside the four walls of the traditional education system. The question is how many so-called illiterates even know this?
How do you feel these problems could best be solved?
One of the ways I feel the issue of illiteracy can be if not erased, reduced to the barest minimum, is by creating an awareness. Creating awareness may sound cliche or ambiguous, but it can be made practical. Once we’ve identified the major reasons people are not being educated, the next is to tackle them.So I’ll begin with some of the reasons we have a high level of illiteracy in our world.
Poverty: when people can barely eat or afford the barest necessities of life, education becomes a far-fetched affair reserved for the luxurious. This reason can be addressed by alleviating poverty and difficult living conditions. And also, my making education free.
Crime/wars: education and insecurity cannot coexist; the two are mutually exclusive. We can’t preach education to someone who isn’t sure their head would remain on their neck the next day. This can be resolved by harnessing conflict resolution strategies and rehabilitating the displaced and affectedvictims.
Other reasons include but are not limited to lack of books, learning disabilities, lack of good academic stimulation, parents with little to no education themselves, etc.
Thankfully, these are solvable problems, and if we can address the fundamentals one step at a time and timely, it’ll go a long way to reducing or eliminating it entirely.
Profile
My name is Grace Ogbe and I love to think I’m a storyteller. I grew up in the northern parts of Nigeria but I originate from the central part, Benue state to be precise. Home to one of the largest rivers in Nigeria and infamous for our rich Agricultural heritage.
I’m 30 years old, married with two lovely sons.
I believe everyone is a story or has one to tell. While I majored in Biochemistry at College, I currently work in a bank at Lagos, Nigeria. So yes, I still dream about my “dream job,” which for me will be to write. Just write. Writing has been the single consistent thing for me. In my free time, I love to read, a lot, write poems and play scrabble.
I started writing professionally in 2016 and my pen hasn’t ceased. I love words. They have so much power I feel like they’re a potent weapon we all should wield well. With words, the possibilities are endless. My type of writing is majorly based off storytelling and i pride myself in years of experiences writing for various niches, blogs, creative, fiction and business writing. I’m currently working on my debut novel and while I’m having fun at it. I genuinely hope that one day, my books will do for someone (even if its one person) what great books have done to me.
I’ve always loved books, knowledge, and leadership is a concept that fascinates me. I want to participate in this study because I’ve always aspired to be a part of a movement with a focus on the betterment of the world. Especially in regard to literacy and self-development. The International Institute for Global leadership is an organization driven to effect change in the level of literacy and leadership asset at a global level with a penchant for excellence. I want to be a part of that. I’d very much love to be a part of what this institute is already doing and can’t wait to contribute my own quota towards making the world a better place.
