One idea in the book that I find difficult to fully accept without nuance is the assertion that all suffering is the result of wrong thinking. While I agree with the author’s belief in the power of thought and its influence on our character and environment, this statement feels too absolute. There are many kinds of suffering that seem unrelated to individual thought patterns such as genetic illnesses, war, poverty, or systemic injustice. It would be unfair, for example, to suggest that someone born into hardship or facing discrimination is entirely responsible for their suffering simply because of their mindset.

That said, I do believe Allen’s message is still useful and important: even when we cannot control the outer conditions of life, we can choose how to interpret and respond to them. This is a powerful lesson. I’ve seen in my own experience how resilience and clarity of mind can change the way I handle difficult situations, even if I didn’t create them. While we might not cause all suffering, we often make it worse or better by the way we think about it.
Another point I struggled with is the idea that success and failure always directly reflect the morality or purity of one’s thoughts. Sometimes, people with admirable intentions and strong work ethics still face loss or misfortune. Life isn’t always fair in the short term. However, I understand Allen is speaking about a deeper principle; one that unfolds over time and through personal growth.

In the end, I don’t reject these ideas completely. Instead, I choose to interpret them with flexibility. They remind me that while I may not be able to change every circumstance, I can always work to change my mindset. This internal shift doesn’t remove all pain or injustice, but it helps me face life with more strength, compassion, and personal responsibility.

There aren’t formal exercises, but the book invites reflection naturally. After reading, I began to ask myself:

What thought patterns am I holding inside me?
How are those thoughts shaping my current situation?

These internal check-ins helped me understand myself more clearly and made me more conscious of my choices.

7. Was there anything you read in the book that you would like to comment on that was not covered in the previous questions?

One idea in As a Man Thinketh that I found difficult to fully agree with is the statement that all suffering comes from wrong thinking. While I do understand the power of thoughts and how our mindset shapes our experience, I also believe that not everything painful in life is the result of our thoughts. For example, people can suffer from illness, natural disasters, or social injustice; things they did not directly create through their own thinking. So for me, this idea needs more nuance.

At the same time, I appreciate Allen’s deeper point; “that our response to suffering is where our real power lies. We may not choose what happens to us, but we can choose how we think and act in response.” That part feels true. For example, during a time of personal loss, I felt deep sadness, which was natural. But the way I chose to reflect, heal, and grow from the experience made a big difference in how I moved forward.
Another part I questioned was the idea that people always get exactly what they “deserve” because of their thinking. In real life, I’ve seen kind and hardworking people face unfair difficulties. I don’t believe that always means their thoughts were wrong or impure. Life is complex, and sometimes situations are influenced by many factors. That said, I still see value in Allen’s message about taking personal responsibility; it helps us stop blaming others and focus on what we can change.
So even though I may not fully agree with everything, I find that the book still offers useful insights. It encourages self-awareness and gives practical ways to grow stronger and more focused. I don’t see it as a perfect answer to all of life’s problems, but more like a helpful guide that invites us to take control of our inner world.

Jonathan’s decisions; leaving the Flock, practicing for mastery, facing rejection, and later teaching others to reflect on the challenges and rewards faced by people who choose to follow their passion instead of conforming to social expectations. ii. Practicing until our wings are strong

Jonathan mastered speed, slow flight, and acrobatics by failing and trying again. His example reminds us that success comes from discipline and repetition. Each attempt, even after mistakes, brings us closer to mastery and helps us keep soaring beyond limits.

iii. Understanding that our real nature is freedom

Jonathan says, “The only true law is that which leads to freedom.” Living by this principle allows us to make choices that reflect who we truly are, rather than simply following the crowd. This is how we rise above the restrictions of the Flock.

I will train my wings daily, understanding that mastery is built in the quiet moments of consistent effort. Whether it is learning, practicing, or refining a skill, I will commit to steady progress. Every repetition will be another beat of my wings toward the heights I want to reach.

I will live by the law of freedom, measuring my choices by whether they expand or restrict my true self. Freedom is not about doing whatever I want it is about making decisions that let me grow, create, and contribute without fear.

Things I Found Unclear or Disagreed With: One part of the story that felt unclear to me was when Jonathan and other advanced gulls moved instantly to different places, as if by thought alone. This moment seemed almost magical, and while I understand it could be a metaphor for total mastery. The idea that when we are completely in harmony with our abilities, we can “be” anywhere we choose. I would have liked more clarity on whether it was meant to be purely symbolic or taken literally within the world of the story. If it is symbolic, then it is a powerful way of showing that true freedom is not limited by space or time; it is a state of mind. But if it is literal, it adds a layer of fantasy that changes the tone of the book.

I also reflected on the message of following one’s passion without compromise. While I strongly agree with the importance of chasing our dreams, I believe in balancing passion with responsibility. In real life, we cannot always leave everything behind in an instant like Jonathan did; sometimes, we have to plan our flight carefully before leaving the ground. For example, when changing careers or moving to a new place, preparation can help us succeed and keep us safe, just as a bird needs to understand the wind before taking off.

I applied the book’s lessons in my own life in several ways:
I mentored a friend by focusing on their potential instead of their current struggles. This felt like helping them see their own “real gull,” just as Jonathan did for Fletcher.

We are all a bit like Jonathan in our own way. These hidden wings represent the parts of ourselves that are waiting to rise above the ordinary.

The world around us our “Flock” may not always understand. Some may question our choices or see our desire for something greater as unnecessary or unrealistic. We may even be treated as Outcasts when we step outside the usual path. But the story of Jonathan reminds us that every dive, every stall, and every rough landing is not a failure; it is training for the moment we will soar higher than we ever imagined possible.
When that moment comes when we finally feel the wind lifting us and realize we are capable of soaring beyond limits we should remember Jonathan’s most important lesson: we are not meant to fly alone. The highest purpose of reaching our own sky is to turn back and help someone else find theirs. Whether it is guiding a friend through a challenge, teaching a skill to a colleague, or inspiring someone to believe in themselves, lifting others into the sky is what makes our own flight truly meaningful.

step by step. This is not magic; it is simply the natural way the brain operates.
Outside change begins inside. When we change the way we see ourselves, our
actions begin to change in a natural way. PsychoCybernetics teaches several tools
to support this transformation, such as relaxation, visualization, forgiveness, and
focusing on positive experiences.

the book, I knew that confidence was important, but I never understood that I was

marketing and communication, I often had to present ideas to clients. Even if my
ideas were strong, I sometimes felt nervous. I believed I was “not naturally
persuasive.” After reading the book, I realized this belief came from my younger
version, who was shy at school. I started imagining myself speaking calmly and
confidently, just like a professional communicator. With time, the fear decreased. I
became more natural during presentations, and clients trusted my ideas more. This
experience showed me that the self image truly influences our behavior.

ii. The success mechanism

Maltz explains that the brain contains a “success mechanism.” This idea helped
me because, as a coach, I guide people through personal change. Before, I was
sometimes afraid of not finding the right words during a difficult session. But when

Overall, I found the book clear and helpful, but there are a few points where I felt
some distance. In some passages, the author speaks as if change will happen
almost automatically once the self-image changes. In my own experience, even
with a better self-image, I still need discipline, time and effort to build new habits.
So for me, self-image is a strong foundation, but not the whole story.
Also, some of the examples in the book are from the 1950s and 1960s in the United
States. Sometimes the language and context feel a bit old. However, I understand
that the core ideas can still be applied today, in different cultures and times. I just
need to translate them into my own reality.

Yes, the book contains exercises like relaxation, visualization, rewriting past
memories, setting goals, and noticing daily successes. I practiced most of them.
Relaxation helped me manage stress. Visualization improved my public speaking
and workshop facilitation. Rewriting past memories reduced regret. Goal setting
brought clarity for my coaching career. Noticing small wins increased my
confidence. These exercises are simple but effective.

One thing I would like to add is that I appreciated the tone of the author. Even when
he speaks about serious psychological ideas, his tone is practical and encouraging. He does not speak like a distant expert, but more like a guide who has seen many people struggle and change. This made it easier for me to trust the message. I also liked that the book invites the reader to take responsibility. It does not
promise an easy or instant transformation. Instead, it offers tools that must be used
by the reader. This is both challenging and empowering. It reminds me that, in the
end, my growth depends on my own daily choices.

and maintaining a Positive Mental Attitude (PMA). Napoleon Hill and W. Clement Stone teach that every person has within them a “talent switch” that can be turned either to the positive or negative side. The way we think determines what we attract into our lives; success, joy, and opportunity, or failure, fear, and disappointment. We are the product of our own thoughts, and by mastering our minds, we can direct our destiny. The authors emphasize that success is not about luck, wealth, or background; it is about
attitude, purpose, and persistence. They describe PMA as a mindset that helps us find
good even in adversity, while a Negative Mental Attitude (NMA) blinds us to solutions and possibilities.

The book reminds us that we cannot control all circumstances, but we can control how we respond to them. By cultivating PMA and combining it with faith, desire, and clear purpose, we can transform challenges into stepping stones. This main idea is powerful because it gives each person full responsibility for their own life. It shows that success begins not with outside conditions but with the invisible world of our thoughts and beliefs. I personally found it liberating to realize that the true power for change lies within my own attitude and daily choices.

It is about maintaining faith and enthusiasm, especially during hard times. When I start my day by focusing on what I can do rather than what I can’t, I see more opportunities.
At work, when faced with a difficult project, I now say to myself, “There’s always a way”and that belief usually leads to creative solutions.

ii. Definiteness of Purpose

Mr. Hill explains that people who know what they want achieve far more than those who drift aimlessly. Having a clear goal gives direction to our thoughts and energy. After reading this, I wrote down my personal and professional goals and began to visualize them each morning. It gave me clarity and motivation, reminding me that every small step must move in the same direction as my main purpose.

Faith is more than belief; it is action supported by conviction. The book taught me to trust in the unseen and to act even when the path isn’t clear. PMA helps me stay emotionally balanced and hopeful. When something unpleasant
happens, I now pause and choose my response instead of reacting impulsively.
For example, when I face a difficult colleague, I practice empathy rather than frustration.
This has improved both my relationships and my peace of mind.

Definiteness of Purpose keeps me focused. Instead of spreading my energy in many
directions, I prioritize tasks that align with my goals.
This makes my work more meaningful and efficient. Applied Faith helps me overcome
doubt. When I face uncertainty, I remind myself that belief and effort combined create
results, even if I don’t see them immediately.

Going the Extra Mile has helped me become more generous and proactive.

20th-century America and feel culturally distant today. Still, the principles themselves are timeless. The stories about industrial leaders like Henry Ford or Andrew Carnegie might seem outdated, but the lessons about determination, vision, and teamwork remain relevant in modern life.

Another aspect that required reflection was the spiritual language. The authors often use words like “faith,” “divine power,” and “cosmic habit force.” At first, I found them abstract, but I came to understand these as metaphors for universal laws; natural forces that reward consistency and right thinking.
Whether one believes in God or simply in the power of the subconscious mind, the result
is the same: belief and persistence lead to growth.

6. Did the book contain exercises for the reader to complete? If so, did you complete all of the exercises and did you find them helpful?

Yes, the book contains several practical exercises. Some of the most effective ones
include writing down your definite purpose, repeating positive affirmations daily, visualizing
success, and performing self-analysis. I completed most of these exercises and found
them very useful.

Writing my definite purpose helped me clarify what I truly want. Affirmations like “I have the power to control my attitude” improved my self-confidence. The habit of visualization; seeing myself already successful; strengthened my motivation. I also practiced the “Do it now” technique whenever I felt lazy or hesitant. It helped me take action immediately instead of procrastinating.

Another powerful exercise is testing one’s “success quotient.” By answering questions
about PMA, discipline, and initiative, I discovered areas of improvement. These exercises
are simple but effective because they transform theory into experience.

7. Was there anything you read in the book that you would like to comment on that was not covered in the previous questions?

Yes. One thing that touched me is how the book connects personal development to
service to others. The authors constantly remind us that real success is never selfish. It
grows when we help others achieve their goals too. This philosophy, which they call the “Magnificent Obsession,” has changed how I see leadership and success. It made me realize that my progress should benefit not only myself but also those around me.

Another point is the emphasis on enthusiasm and controlled attention.
Hill explains that enthusiasm is the spark that brings ideas to life, while controlled attention
helps maintain focus on priorities. Both are necessary for success. I started practicing enthusiasm by doing my work with joy and expressing appreciation more often.This small change created a better atmosphere
at home and at work.

Finally, the concept of “habit force” taught me that discipline is freedom. When I build positive routines; reading daily, thinking positively, acting kindly they become automatic, and success becomes effortless. The book reminded me that excellence is not an act but a habit formed through repetition and persistence.
