Babirye Prima Maria – Assessments

As A Man Thinketh
Assessment by Babirye Prima Maria

1. What is the main idea that the author is trying to convey in the book?

The main idea the author is trying to convey in this book is that man’s visions can become reality, simply through the power of thought. In this book he emphasizes thought’s significance to ones character, circumstances, health and body, purpose, achievements, visions and ideals and serenity.

2. What were the seven ideas which were personally most important to you and why? List these seven ideas followed by an explanation after each one as to why it was important to you. Use personal examples from your own life.

The seven ideas I found most important to me were thought’s effect on character, circumstances, achievement, purpose, health and body, visions and ideals and serenity. These ideas are summed up in the statement that man is the master of thought, molder of character, and the maker and the shaper of condition, environment and destiny. These ideas were all personally important to me because they opened my mind to the possibilities that could be achieved by my correct use of right thinking and actions.

My thoughts effect on my character.

This idea showed me that through making right choices and applying thought truly, I can attain my ideal of divine perfection. I hold the key to every situation so, must become wise and remain conscious in order to obtain knowledge of myself which is understanding, wisdom and power as well as find every truth connected to my being. In order for me to attain great knowledge, I need patience, practice and ceaseless importunity.

Effect of my thought on my circumstances.

My environment and circumstances reveal my thought state and character. I am where I am to learn and grow and once this has been done, the circumstance passes away and gives place to other circumstances. All circumstances I go through are for my ultimate good whether good or bad. To attain fulfillment and achieve my dominant aspirations, the thought has to have been secretly fostered in my heart so that when the hour of opportunity comes, it reveals its gathered power. I attract that which I am and my thought and action can liberate me if they are noble. I can only get what I justly earn and my wishes and prayers are only gratified and answered when they harmonize with my thoughts and actions. In order to improve my circumstances I have to improve myself. I only suffer until I am perfectly pure and enlightened.

Effect of thought on my health and body.

My body responds readily to thoughts. Clean thoughts make clean habits. In order to perfect my body, I have to guard my mind and to renew my body, beautify my mind. I must admit freely into my mind thoughts of joy, goodwill and serenity so as to have a strong body and a bright happy and serene countenance. I have to think well of all, be cheerful with all and to patiently find the good in all so as to attain heaven and to dwell day by day in thoughts of peace toward every creature which will bring me abounding peace. A significant lesson I learnt is that those who fear of disease usually get it. For example; In the rainy season at home, those who constantly talk about contracting flu and cough and try to avoid the people sick of these diseases usually contract them, whereas those who don’t mind them don’t usually get sick.

Effect of my thought on the purpose I choose.

The idea that no intelligent accomplishment can be done until thought is linked with purpose. Strength can only be developed by effort, patience and practice. I should use thought with a purpose in order to make all conditions serve me, think strongly, attempt fearlessly and accomplish masterfully. I have to conquer doubt and fear so as to conquer failure and meet difficulty bravely and overcome it. The will to do springs from the knowledge that we can do. In order to become the intelligent and conscious wielder of my mental powers I must know that thought allied fearlessly to purpose becomes creative force.

How necessary the thought factor is in achievement of set goals.

My happiness and suffering are my own and not someone else’s. Freedom is what I will attain after conquering weakness and pushing away all selfish thoughts. I can only rise and conquer and achieve my thoughts by lifting up my thoughts and the higher I do so, the greater will my success be and the more enduring my achievements. I am limited only by the thoughts I choose. All my achievements are the result of my definitely directed thought. So as to achieve highly, I must sacrifice greatly.

The importance of my visions and ideals.

If I cherish a beautiful vision, a lofty ideal in my heart and stay true to it, I will one day realize it. My dreams are the seedlings of realities. I will receive that which I earn, no more, no less. For me to attain the great results I envision, I must put in a lot of effort. I liked this idea because it showed me that I could dream and they (the dreams, that is) really do come true. This has given me hope that the vision I glorify in my mind and the ideal that I enthrone in my heart is what I will build my life by and thus become.

Serenity and how I should acquire and maintain it.

This idea is the one I found most important because calmness of mind comes from wisdom, balance, self control, understanding and experience. Self control is strength. Right thought is mastery. Calmness is power.

3. How will these ideas or lessons help you in a practical way, both in your daily personal life and in helping you to create a better world? If so, how?

The ideas above will enable me to improve my daily personal life by applying right thought to my character, health circumstance, purpose, achievements, visions and ideals and obtaining serenity. All these lessons enabled me to realize how much I contribute to my environment and results of all my dreams and set goals. My thought process will definitely have to change a great deal in order for me to achieve more and impact others around me. Governing myself will enable me to adapt myself to others and govern myself.

These ideas will enable me to create a better world by thinking correctly and treating others with love, respect and understanding and thus be an example to others on how to make their life amazing and create a better world for all one person at a time. These lessons have shown me how important I am to creating a better world because even with only one person practicing the right thinking, the world can change for better.

4. Quotes: Are there any statements which the author made that particularly got your attention? If so, please quote them and comment as to why they were important to you.

‘Dream lofty dreams, and as you dream, so shall you become. Your vision is the promise of what you shall one day be; your ideal is the prophecy of what you shall at last unveil.’ This statement showed me that dreams do come true and I should not be afraid to dream big because they do come true.

‘As he thinks, so is he; as he remains to think so he remains.’ This statement shows me the reality about what I am and what I remain and how it is my thinking that has kept me here. It enables me to realize that only I can change my current reality through use of right thinking. It shows me that for me to improve my circumstances; I must improve myself first by sacrificing a lot and maintaining some self control.

5. Is there anything in the book that you do not understand or are unclear about, or are there ideas which you disagree with and, if so, why?

There is nothing I do not understand or disagree with, although some words were new. These were; aphorism, importunity, vicissitudes and diadem.

6. Did the book contain exercises for the reader to complete? If so, did you complete all of the exercises and did you find them helpful?

The writer suggested that the reader should if he so resolves, trace the action of the laws of thought in his own mind and life, so as to attain ground of reasoning. I traced the action of the laws of thought in my mind and life and realized that for me to improve my circumstances; I must encourage thoughts and desires which harmonize to this end.

7. Was there anything you read in the book that you would like to comment on that was not covered in the previous questions? If so, please comment.

I liked the fact that he gave illustrations with clear examples to explain both the good and bad side of things and their repercussions. This made it much more interesting and easy to understand. For example:

‘I know a woman of ninety-six who has the bright, innocent face of a girl. I know a man well under middle age whose face is drawn into in harmonious contours. The one is the result of a sweet and sunny disposition; the other is the outcome of passion and discontent.’

Jonathan Livingston Seagull
Assessment by Babirye Prima Maria

1. What is the main idea that the author is trying to convey in the book?

The author is stating that for one to attain excellence, one must step away from the normal way of doing things, the expectations of everyone else and focus on their goal so as to be elevated. The author also states that for one to achieve their dream, they must first of all enjoy what they are doing and not see it as a means to an end. he then goes on to state that when one has achieved what they set out to do, they then must look to helping others with love, kindness and understanding instead of looking for glory. The author also conveys the idea that we are all unlimited beings who have to look past our limitations and understand that we have unlimited power and abilities.

2. What were the seven ideas which were personally most important to you and why? List these seven ideas followed by an explanation after each one as to why it was important to you. Use personal examples from your own life.

The seven ideas that were personally most important to me were; to love the work that I do, I must follow my dream, enthusiasm, willingness, time management, commitment and persistence are vital for me to achieve my dream, I must be patient with those that don’t support me to follow my dream, with excellence I will attain the benefits and luxuries that come with it, I should have a mentor to assist me and lastly, I should share my love for all.

The first idea was that I must love the work that I do and not its result because then it would be tiresome, boring and cumbersome to me. This love will give me the drive and devotion to carry on greater amounts of work and achieve more results. Instead of seeing my work as a burden, I should see it as an opportunity to better myself and become perfect at what I do.

Secondly, for me to achieve excellence and success, I must not give in to the pressure from peers and family to fit in with the rest and value what they value and must simply follow my dream. For me to attain excellence, it is vital for me to look for my truth and not others.

To achieve my dream, I have to be enthusiastic and willing to learn new things and ways of doing things; I should utilize my time well and should be willing to stay committed and persistent in the trying times when discouragement and failure step in temporarily.

I may not always gain the support and understanding of the people who are closest to me when pursuing my dream and should be patient with them when this happens. In most cases, the people who one thinks love and understand him the most are the ones who will discourage him from moving forward with his life as seen by Jonathan’s parents who tried to make him fit in with the rest. With time those who share the dream with me will come along and in harmony we will exist.

When I follow my dream, I will no longer need to settle for less or just enough or for what is available because I will acquire more skills and capacities that will now enable me to attain the benefits and luxuries that come along with excellence.

A mentor is necessary for me to develop and achieve all I have set out to. One with experience, understanding and knowledge of where I am heading would be best so as to guide me to achieve my goals. I should also mentor others with kindness and love after I have achieved my set goals because this will enable me to enhance their learning and improve their skills and capabilities.” In a nutshell, do for others what you would like to be done for you.”

Love for my fellow man is very important for one who has managed to achieve a lot because one is thus able to give back to the society after becoming successful for example by mentoring and teaching others how to achieve their dreams. Choices determine how elevated we get. When I choose kindness, gentleness and love for others instead of glory, it will all become mine. Actions one does out of love and kindness for fellow man usually elevate individuals unlike those actions done just for one to receive glory and praise.

3. How will these ideas or lessons help you in a practical way, both in your daily personal life and in helping you to create a better world? If so, how?

When I love what I do as work, I will be able to carryout vast amounts of work with less effort and for a longer time because with love comes commitment, persistence and resilience in the hard times. This lesson has taught me to choose work that I love to do so that I can carry it out with more enthusiasm and creativity. This will help me to become more effective and efficient in all I do in my personal life and thus make success easily achievable. This will enable me to create a better world by carrying out my part in its development.

In order for my dream to come true, to achieve excellence and success I must follow my dream. I must not give in to the pressure from peers and family to fit in with the rest and value what they value. For me to attain excellence, it is vital for me to look for my truth and not others. Practically, this means that I must endeavor to choose a path I want for myself and not follow one that my peers and family think is best for me. This will help me be my own individual and become self reliant.

Enthusiasm and willingness to learn new things and ways of doing thing will enable me to become more diverse and thus more efficient and willing to utilize my time well and should be willing to stay committed and persistent in the trying times when discouragement and failure step in temporarily. This will improve the way I carry out given tasks in my daily personal life.

I may not always gain the support and understanding of the people who are closest to me when pursuing my dream and should be patient with them when this happens. With time those who share the dream with me will come along and in harmony we will exist. Patience and understanding of those people who fail to support my pursuit of my dream will enable me to become self reliant and independent and thus allow me to stand on my own and succeed. This in my personal life will enable my growth and development into a mature individual who can make decisions on their own. In helping me create a better world, this will enable me to understand people better and support others dreams.

When I follow my dream, I will no longer need to settle for less or just enough or for what is available because I will acquire more skills and capacities that will now enable me to attain the benefits and luxuries that come along with excellence. These benefits will enable me to better impact the world I live in so as to create a better world. My personal life will also improve as I will serve as an example to all those who are following their dreams that they are achievable.

A mentor is necessary for me to develop and achieve all I have set out to. One with experience, understanding and knowledge of where I am heading would be best so as to guide me to achieve my goals. I should also mentor others with kindness and love after I have achieved my set goals because this will enable me to enhance their learning and improve their skills and capabilities.” In a nutshell, do for others what you would like to be done for you.” This lesson will help me to learn more from one on more people’s experience and not make the mistakes they did and thus get to my set goals with more efficiency.

Love for all is very important for one who has managed to achieve a lot because one has to give back to the society after becoming successful for example by mentoring and teaching others how to achieve their dreams. Choices determine how elevated we get. In my personal life, this will enable me to treat others with more kindness and consideration and understanding. Love will enable me to create a better world passing it on to others one person at a time.

(‘To fly as fast as thought, to anywhere that is, you must begin by knowing that you have already arrived…’

All the above quotes got my attention because to me they all state that we are all perfect and unlimited beings and in order for us to progress and attain the success and achievements we aim for, we must see ourselves as perfect , free and unlimited and look past our perceived imperfections, doubts and fears.

Keys to Success

Assessment By UGANDA – Babirye Prima

1. What is the main idea that the author is trying to convey in the book?

The author is trying to convey that I can achieve success in anything I do if I make these seventeen principles part of my actions and attitudes. I found out so many new ideas on how to achieve success but I found that all of them relate to each other and with time I can develop all if I start using one.

2. What were the seven ideas which were personally most important to you and why? List these seven ideas followed by an explanation after each one as to why it was important to you. Use personal examples from your own life.

I got more than seven great ideas from this book but of these, the seven I found most important are here below.

A. Develop definiteness of purpose makes me aware of the opportunities related to my major purpose and it gives me courage to act on them. It also has several benefits outlined that I have already started experiencing for example; self reliance, personal initiative, imagination, enthusiasm, self discipline, concentrated effort, faith (which makes me more positive and frees me from the limitations that doubt brings that cause me to get easily discouraged, indecisive and procrastinate all which don’t serve me), cooperation, decision making capacity and success consciousness. If I know what I want from life, and I am determined to get it that it becomes an obsession with continuous effort and sound planning then I would have developed definiteness of purpose. I must be clear about what it is I want and what exactly I am willing to GIVE before I expect to GET in return.

B. Mastermind Alliance will enable me to team up with similar minded people in order to achieve our set goals and enable us to attain success in out given purpose. This should be in all areas of my life-my relationships, my education and my career. The fact that I must first make this alliance with my self that knows no obstacles and recognizes no defeat and my own mind so as to enable me to successfully make a mastermind alliance with others. Having self-positivity, optimism and belief it will enable me to first identify and encourage myself and enable me to keep allied with someone who shares my goals and give me the confidence to succeed since I will be able to take complete charge of the power of my mind.

C. Going the extra mile-enthusiasm is necessary for me to achieve success and there several benefits for doing more than I am paid to do. Going the extra mile enables me to become indispensable and thus more useful to all am associated with and enables me to self improvement, self confidence and opportunity to come into my life.

D. Enforcing self discipline is an idea I found very relevant because I had been challenged by it. I learnt that for me to acquire self discipline I must first know myself and make an accurate assessment of my current liabilities. It also calls for my balancing my emotions with my reasoning and is very useful in controlling my appetite, time, positive mental attitude and definiteness of purpose. The greatest manifestation of self discipline is in the strength of my will. I have learned that a definite major purpose, activated by a driving motive is the starting point of all worthwhile achievement. This motive must be so strong that it will subordinate all my thoughts and efforts to the attainment of my definite purpose. But my drive, emotions must also be subject to my own good judgment so that my enthusiasm and desire will not run over my wisdom and I must discipline myself so that my drive is always under control and directed in the proper channels.

E. Inspiring teamwork has taught me that in order for me to receive anything in life, I must first GIVE. True teamwork depends on relating myself to others in a way that they work with me willingly and everyone must see themselves as valued and vital for the organization’s success. Enthusiasm for what I do will infect others and thus enable team work.

F. Learn from Adversity and defeat is another great idea I have learned to use instead of letting defeat get to me and make me more discouraged, I will use it to make my next opportunity a success because of the attitude towards defeat is necessary for me to achieve success. Here the fundamental lesson was when I am defeated I use my applied faith in myself and my purpose to put Positive Mental Attitude into action.

G. Budget my time and money was another important idea I found very important because I have been complaining about not having enough of both of these resources yet its only me to blame for misusing them. I learnt to prioritize my tasks and needs and make this a habit for me to benefit.

3. How will these ideas or lessons help you in a practical way, both in your daily personal life and in helping you to create a better world? If so, how?

These ideas will enable to start achieving success and thus attain the resources to achieve my dream to build employment villages for people in my country in the long run as well as be more effective in my duties at work plus my personal life and produce great results as well as engage more with my family. These lessons have already helped me change my life around (physically, spiritually, and in my relationships ), they are not new ideas but they are explained so simply and precisely that I can now clearly identify them and realize when I am doing right and the results I should expect. For example I have set my healthy goal weight and what I want to look like and now I have an ongoing exercise and meal plan set so as to achieve my set in goals within three months. So far I have achieved great results within the past weeks since I began this journey in my life and I am already reaping great benefits (looking healthier and feeling greater).

4. Quotes: Are there any statements which the author made that particularly got your attention? If so, please quote them and comment as to why they were important to you.

This statement got my attention-“If you know what you want from life, if you are determined to get it to the point that it becomes an obsession, and you back that obsession with continuous effort and sound planning, then you have awakened and developed definiteness of purpose and I believe that this is what enables me to get what I want and without it I cannot achieve true success.” So I must know what I want and be determined to get it through continuous effort and sound planning.

The statement I loved the most was “The worst thing that happens to you may be the best thing that can happen to you if you don’t let it get the best of you.” This made me realize that defeat may be a stepping stone or a stumbling block, according to your mental attitude and how you relate it to yourself. Defeat is never the same as failure unless and until it has been accepted that it is. Learn from Adversity and defeat enables me to make my next opportunity a success instead of letting defeat get to me and make me more discouraged because the attitude towards defeat is necessary for me to achieve success. Here the fundamental lesson was when I am defeated I use my applied faith in myself and my purpose to put Positive Mental Attitude into action.

ENTHUSIASM is the word that spoke to me I this book. Without enthusiasm, there is nothing I can do and achieve success. So I must act enthusiastic to be enthusiastic.

Faith in (Infinite intelligence) God inspires faith in other human beings as well. Confidence begets confidence as those who have faith in God, in themselves and in others inspire others to have faith in them. People strong in faith are humble at heart. While learning to use applied faith, I learnt that in order to get results much faster, I should make my prayers an expression of gratitude and thanksgiving for the blessings I have already instead of requests for the things I do not have.

5. Is there anything in the book that you do not understand or are unclear about, or are there ideas which you disagree with and, if so, why?

No there was nothing in the book I did not understand or disagreed with.

6. Did the book contain exercises for the reader to complete? If so, did you complete all of the exercises and did you find them helpful?

No there was no exercise to complete.

7. Was there anything you read in the book that you would like to comment on that was not covered in the previous questions? If so, please comment.

Please rate the following questions on a scale from 1 to 10.

A. How interesting was it to read? 9

*Psycho-Cybernetics 2000 *

By Maxwell Maltz Foundation and Bobbe Sommer.

*Assessment by Babirye Prima*

1. What is the main idea that the author is trying to convey in the

book?

The main idea the author is trying to communicate is that one’s *self image sets the limits* of what one can achieve. People will always act, feel and behave according to what they imagine to be true about themselves and their circumstances regardless of whether it is true or false. *What I believe conditions what I can do.* By expanding my self image I expand the limits of my talents and capabilities.

“Our self image and our habits set tend to go together. Change one and you will automatically change the other. When we consciously and deliberately develop new and better habits, our self image tends to outgrow the new

habits and grow into the new pattern” Maxwell Maltz.

2. What were the seven ideas which were personally most important to you and why? List these seven ideas followed by an explanation after each one as to why it was important to you. Use personal examples from your own life.

The idea that if *we watch our limits instead of destinations, we bump against those limits*. If our self perception is so negative that we allow ourselves no destination at all we wander all over the road and eventually we crunch up against a curb and despair about why we never seem to get anywhere. However, if we have specific, realistic images of success to guide us and we stay focused on these images, we need not worry about the curbs because our in-built guidance system keeps us on course, automatically corrects our steering and keeps us moving forward towards success and happiness. This made me realize I had been doing things the wrong way in the past and gave me a better way to approach challenges.

*Goals should be approached as a process not a place to be-*this idea made me think of goals as a path I am taking towards a particular end and not the end in itself which in turn enables me to view the process as complete, fluid and dynamic so I will not perceive every setback or slowdown as a sign of failure. This I found motivating.

*Procrastination may result from fear of success or fear of failure. *This idea made me realize that I had been letting fear of both success and failure control me and prevent me from carrying out my chosen goals. I had been using procrastination to avoid the humiliation of failure and in the end still failing to achieve my set goals. I was able to acquire ways to prevent procrastinating and utilize them.

*Courage* is necessary for me *to take risks* and learn new things and unlearn old things and relearn those great things I have forgotten and all this will *enable me to handle change well*, the most consistent factor in life today. This will enable me to keep taking risks and trying new things, stepping out of my comfort zone often.

I found the idea that to avoid failure I have to change from aggressiveness into *assertiveness* very important to me. The assertiveness is a win-win strategy that persuades others that they all want the same thing and enables them to keep their dignity intact.

A *good personality *is one where the person has freed and released the creative potential within him and is able to express his real self. This makes a person attractive because their personality is magnetic and has a powerful influence over other people because they can sense that they are in touch with something real and basic. This personality helps one to handle criticism from others and self criticism with a positive response.

*Being happy and enthusiastic* is another idea I found important to me. Using Infundibulum to find my own intrinsic worth and greatness, my right and proper place in the great universe through love between self, others and the world.

“Everyone’s real goal is for more life-more living. Whatever your definition of happiness may be, you will experience happiness only as you experience more life. More living means among other things more accomplishment, the attainment of worthwhile goals, more love experienced and given, more health and enjoyment, more happiness for both yourself and others. Let us not limit our acceptance of Life by our own feelings of unworthiness. “Maxwell Maltz

3. How will these ideas or lessons help you in a practical way, both in your daily personal life and in helping you to create a better world? If so, how?

All the above ideas will enable me to change the way I view and contribute to the world around me and the way I as an individual respond to situations that I am facing and change.

These ideas are enabling me to create more positive change around me and live a more fulfilling and happy life which enables me to help all around me grow. By expanding my self image I expand the limits of my talents and capabilities. I can do anything and achieve it all because now I have a positive self image and way of doing things.

4. Quotes: Are there any statements which the author made that particularly got your attention? If so, please quote them and comment as to why they were important to you.

*”Our disturbed feelings-our anger, hostility, fear, anxiety, insecurity are caused by our own responses- not by externals..Thus, relaxation is nature’s own tranquilizer, which erects a psychic screen.between you and the stimulus.” Maxwell Maltz*

The fact that my stress comes from my own response to an event and situation and this response is a habit I can replace got my attention. This made me realize that I choose my own experience because I choose how I react to a situation whether perceived good or bad. I also realized how much control I have over my own life and the experience I choose to have and I can thus have a life filled with several great experiences because I consciously choose to have them. This made me realize that all the stress and bad feelings that I experience are a result of my own response or reaction to a given situation and I can make more choices to keep positive feelings and enable me to purposely keep myself pointed in a positive direction and keep myself relaxed.

*”Everyone’s real goal is for more life-more living. Whatever your definition of happiness may be, you will experience happiness only as you experience more life. More living means among other things more accomplishment, the attainment of worthwhile goals, more love experienced and given, more health and enjoyment, more happiness for both yourself and others. Let us not limit our acceptance of Life by our own feelings of unworthiness.” Maxwell Maltz*

Since I am like a bicycle and can only maintain my balance when moving forward toward something, otherwise I will lose balance if I remain in one place and eventually fall. I need to live more and experience life more by not letting my negative self image prevent me from pursuing and achieving my goals and loving more, taking care of my health more and enjoying myself more. I have embarked on living more and enjoying my life more as well as exploring more great opportunities outside my comfort zone. LIVING MORE.

*”Every one of us acts, feels and behaves in a way that is consistent with our self-image-regardless of the reality of that image.”*

I am a product of the images I carry of myself and my self image prescribes my limits and therefore what I can achieve or which goal I can pursue. The wonderful thing is that I am capable of taking control of my self image and programming my automatic guidance system for success. This gives me hope that I can achieve success.

* My Self esteem is me appreciating my own worth and importance and having the character to be accountable for myself and to act responsibly towards others.*

My self confidence and self-esteem make me able to listen to others voices and accept them as my equals. I as a winner should no longer personalize poor results and I can also get disappointed without feeling like a failure.

5. Is there anything in the book that you do not understand or are unclear about, or are there ideas which you disagree with and, if so, why?

No, there was nothing I did not understand although some things I had to read several times to understand.

6. Did the book contain exercises for the reader to complete? If so, did you complete all of the exercises and did you find them helpful?

Yes the book contained several exercises for me to complete and yes, I did find them very eye opening and helpful.

7. Was there anything you read in the book that you would like to comment on that was not covered in the previous questions? If so, please comment.

No, there is none.

Please rate the following questions on a scale from 1 to 10.

A. How interesting was it to read? 8

*Success through a Positive Mental Attitude *By Napoleon Hill and W.

Clement Stone

*Assessment by Babirye Prima*

1. What is the main idea that the author is trying to convey in the book?

The main idea the author is trying to convey is that one can attain success with a positive mental attitude no matter the circumstances he is faced with. He states that” Success is achieved and maintained by those

Who keep trying with *POSITIVE MENTAL ATTITUDE”. *The author says that when

I seek success with Positive Mental Attitude, I keep trying and keep searching for something more and thus never give up until I have acquired that which am striving for. The author discusses the *17 Principles of Success* in of which Positive Mental Attitude is one and the others are:

Definiteness of Purpose, Going the Extra Mile, Accurate Thinking, Self-Discipline, The Master Mind, Applied Faith, A Pleasing Personality, Personal Initiative, Enthusiasm, Controlled Attention, Teamwork, Learning from Defeat, Creative Vision, Budgeting my Time and Money, Maintaining Sound Physical and Mental Health and Using the Cosmic Habit Force (Universal Law). All these principles must be done in combined effort to enable one to achieve success, however, a *POSITIVE MENTAL ATTITUDE* is a constant when working with all the other principles as stated above. He states that Positive Mental Attitude is the catalyst which makes any combination of success principles work to attain a worthwhile end. The author states that the purpose of this book is to motivate me, the reader.

2. What were the seven ideas which were personally most important to you and why? List these seven ideas followed by an explanation after each one as to why it was important to you. Use personal examples from Your own life.

The author discusses the 17 principles of Success of which Positive Mental Attitude is one and these principles I have come to find out when applied to my personal and professional life are enabling me to develop as a

Person and gain more success in all my endeavors. Of the seventeen, below are the seven I found most inspiring and challenging for my reality.

* Inspirational Dissatisfaction*- The idea that the man with Positive Mental Attitude will so arrange his attitudes that he will turn even the bad breaks into advantages was so revolutionary to me because it

Encouraged me not to give up on myself and start where I am right now and arrange my attitude so as to turn my bad breaks into advantages with my use of

> Positive Mental Attitude. I am inspired to keep pushing on in my work even when I am not seeing the results I want to see and keep trying for example with my weight goals, I will keep on eating right and exercising to

Achieve and maintain my healthy goal weight.

*Definiteness of purpose* *with Positive Mental Attitude* is the starting point of all achievement. I have to know what my goal is in life and what I want out of life in order to work towards it and achieve it.

To combat inertia, fear and procrastination I must use Positive Mental Attitude and eliminate them and clear these cobwebs by applying self starters-DO IT NOW and keep motivating myself. I must choose want I want

To achieve with specifics outlined for example the goal, timelines and what

To do to achieve the goal set so as to be clear and thus make it simpler to determine how far I have progressed, what more I need to do and how much time I have left to deliver this goal to my reality. I am using this in my learning, by setting clear and high goals to enable me to graduate and achieve my degrees in the time I have set. A* positive attitude *is necessary to all achieve success as our attitudes shape our future. He goes on to further state that When our attitude to ourselves is big and

Our attitude towards others is generous and merciful, we attract big and generous portions of success. Now is the time to be happy and to act.

Another idea I loved is *Going the Extra Mile* and that those who

*succeed desire the success*, never give up and achieve success through constant motivation and faith in themselves and their abilities. This has pushed me to define and choose what exactly I want to succeed in and has inspired me to motivate myself and believe in myself to achieve set goals. Going the extra mile is because of my motivation and this makes me push harder each time I work on something and try to be better in my results, speed and execution, it also reminds me to take care of myself and when I am tired,

I should stop what I am doing, relax play and rest to regain my energy. One can only get things done by *making a habit* of them. I am what my habits make me and I choose my habits. “Sow an act and you reap a habit, sow a habit and you reap a character, sow a character and you reap a destiny”.

He also stresses the *belief in a Higher Power*, *God* who provides opportunities for success. He states that mans greatest power lies in the power of prayer. I have not because I ask not. God is always a good God. ALWAYS.

The idea that, *I have the talents to surmount my special problems* and

I have the abilities and specific talents to meet my problems. This encourages me not to give up and take on my problems because it is only I who can solve them. One good idea followed by action can change failure into success.

*I am a mind with a body. *This makes me able to condition the powers of my mind to what I want to achieve. Thus by practicing positive suggestion, self suggestion and auto suggestion I can acquire anything I desire, whether riches, or change in attitude. This I can do by using some statements constantly repeated with feeling, belief and meaning for example- *”*DAY BY DAY IN EVERY WAY THROUGH THE GRACE OF GOD I AM

GETTING BETTER AND BETTER THROUGH POSITIVE MENTAL ATTITUDE”.

3. How will these ideas or lessons help you in a practical way, both in your daily personal life and in helping you to create a better world? If so, how?

These ideas and lessons will help me become a more confident, happier and peaceful person willing to work with others on a common goal so as to achieve success and prosperity. Inspirational Dissatisfaction and

Definitiveness of purpose will enable me to turn my life around for better. A positive attitude is already bringing great developments in my life. I

Am facing my challenges and carrying out my set goals with determination and purpose and all this is because of my positive attitude when working towards my dreams.

I am now able to contribute to my own development and that of others around me and become a great team player in my work and family.

4. Quotes: Are there any statements which the author made that particularly got your attention? If so, please quote them and comment as to why they were important to you.

“If the man is right, his world will be right”.-this teaches me that all starts with me and not the other way. This means that when I am faced with a problem that involves misunderstandings with other people I must first start with myself.

“Sow an act and you reap a habit, sow a habit and you reap a character, sow a character and you reap a destiny”. I choose my acts which turn into habits and then my character so for a good character each act must be good.

This quotation –

“What! Giving Again?” I ask in dismay.

“And must I keep giving and giving away?”

“Oh no,” said the angel looking me through,

“Just keep giving till the Master stops giving to you!”

And – “The more you share, the more you will have” taught me that to receive, I must first give.

*”Anything in life worth having is worth working for and anything in life worth working for is worth praying for.” *I must work for and pray for what I deem worth having in life.
