Overall, the book likely serves as a testament to her life, leadership, and dedication to public service. By her memoir, she seeks to inspire, educate, and empower her readers to make a big difference in the world, by first effecting it, through her actions.

The ideas from the book entitled ‘This Child Shall Be Great’ will practically help me, both in my daily personal life and to create a better world in the following ways:

Persistence in the face of adversity: In my daily life, the candid lessons from persistence will help me overcome challenges and setbacks which there are quite a handful through my dealings with people and in my professional pursuits. By maintaining a clear focus on my long-term goals and putting up a strong disposition in moments of difficulty, I will be able to overcome them. In a broader context, once I have been able to arm myself properly, I can equally encourage others and give positive advice on how they could also be champions, which will make the world a more habitable place to live in.

Empowerment of Women and Girls: It is quite unfortunate that women and girls are at the receiving ends of most if not all societal injustices since they are weaker. Being compassionate and considerate to them will go a long way in changing the direction of their lives entirely. I know I used to take out some time to properly advise young girls in my local fellowship, and engage with their parents to know what they want in life. I had this member who wanted to study nursing at the university but unfortunately was offered another distant discipline to study. Upon learning about the situation due to my discussions with her, I made her understand that the other alternate discipline might be a starting point to get her to her chosen destination. Though she later told me, she didn’t accept the offer, she was in a much better state of mind, and just recently, I chanced upon her matriculation images online, looking all smiles and what have you.

Reconciliation and healing: I have learned to forgive the hurts and wrongs that have been done to me, which unfortunately are quite a handful. I try to see things from their perspective and let it slip. Such disposition will help me mentally and socially, as there would be fewer barriers when I want to operate or interact with them. However, I will be cautious. In a broader sense, healing and forgiving will most definitely make the world a more cherished place to live in. If wrongs are forgiven and grudges aren’t kept, people can be their brother’s keeper. A lot of unnecessary scrambling will cease especially in the global setting. I do my best to model the lessons embedded therein from the stories I have learned from the book.

(Michael is a Level Five Student and an IIGL Board Member).

What Others Are Saying

Sunday Elebiju (Nigeria)

elebijusunday@gmail.com

Why IIGL?

Recently I was looking at other Diploma scholarship programs and it made me further appreciate IIGL and graduating from the program!
