An Inside Job<\/span><\/p>\n

“When you realize that everything springs only from yourself, you will learn both peace and joy.” -His Holiness the Dalai Lama<\/span><\/p>\n

Based on the quote above, it is easy to understand that conflict is an inside job. How, then, could personal peace be other than within? With an open mind, we can consider that HH Dalai Lama\u2019s wisdom may ring true.<\/span><\/p>\n

Certainly there are endless external events that trigger our reactions and act as catalysts to get us to notice what is going on but the events themselves don\u2019t cause our upset. Our upsets definitively stem from our judgmental thoughts about these events.<\/span><\/p>\n

Everything is really about something else. Usually it is something that occurred in the distant past and is demanding to be recognized, to be dealt with and more importantly, to be healed in this now moment. The REAL problem is internal wounding. What will heal us is not blame, shame or guilt. Love is the healer and our job is to take personal responsibility for healing.<\/span><\/p>\n

It is quite empowering to accept that we, as well as a plethora of well-known spiritual teachers, are all wounded and that we each contain innate wisdom that can effectively address personal solutions. So, if we can accept this as fact, it only remains for us to activate this already present wisdom. How seems the eternal question.<\/span><\/p>\n

The answer is simultaneously simple and challenging. It requires having the courage and the persistence to override collective conditioning and to access the heart\u2019s intelligence. This means we need to feel and to be acutely aware of feeling while becoming less attached to personal opinions and judgments. (It is important to note that feelings are not emotions and that the true heart speaks the language of divine BIG LOVE.) Rather than perceiving enemies, we can refocus our attention with a clear intention to be still enough to call forth the loving essence from within ourselves and others. Gene Knudsen Hoffman said, \u201cAn enemy is someone whose story your heart has not heard\u201d. If we can learn to listen through the lens of BIG LOVE, we can literally hear with the heart and thus experience both personal and global transformation.<\/span><\/p>\n

Clearly, most of us are experts at judging those whose personal paradigms and points of view differ from our own. We also have years of practice at projecting our opinions and beliefs outward to blame someone else for anything that seems wrong to us. Much like the story of a drunken man who lost his car keys in a darkened bar but was searching for them under the light post outside because that is where he could see, we too, seem to illogically seek externally for solutions. We often tend to look for another to blame while we also expect that someone else is better equipped to resolve every problem or conflict in our society.<\/span><\/p>\n

There is no peace in looking outward for answers. This is not to say that we cannot gain insights through dialogue. However we can, more astutely, look within and ask, \u201cWhat would bring me peace?\u201d, \u201cHow could I see this differently?\u201d, \u201cWhat can I legitimately control?\u201d or \u201cWhat is something I can personally do to address this situation?\u201d These questions reflect a proactive stance of one willing to take self responsibility, an important first step toward inner peace.<\/span><\/p>\n

As we truly listen within for answers, it is also prudent to identify discounting thoughts that can thwart creative solutions. Notice doubting thoughts like: \u201cThat\u2019s silly!\u201d, \u201cI couldn\u2019t do that\u201d or \u201cTotally impossible!\u201d etc. All discounting and invalidating tactics are what ego uses to keep us bound in victimhood, unforgiveness and blame. The question to ask when doubting thoughts creep in is \u201cWhy not?\u201d Hearing creative responses to this question just might delight us and bring us the freshness of peace.<\/span><\/p>\n

Peace and the resolution of conflict both begin with a clear loving intention of forgiveness- self and others. Someone once said that failure to forgive another is much like drinking poison and expecting the other person to die. It seems imperative to accept that healing happens first inside the individual heart with BIG LOVE then expands outwardly to touch others.<\/span><\/p>\n

BIG LOVE expansion makes it possible to identify, to witness and to stand with each other\u2019s pain and sorrows as well as to share joys. In doing so, we foster feelings of understanding and interconnectedness. We are, after all, one human family living on the same planet while each is, in his own way, yearning for peace. It just may be that calling forth innate wisdom with compassionate love will light the way for humanity to thrive together rather than to continue the obsolete approach of \u201cfighting to survive\u201d. Peace truly is an inside job.<\/span><\/p>\n

Carlos Paulino (Dominican Republic)<\/span><\/p>\n

I am Carlos Paulino was born in the Community of El Valle, Province Hato Mayor, Dominican Republic, After finishing my secondary studies I moved to the capital my country, where I began to study the Bachelor of Philosophy and Humanities, consider this race for several reasons among which I can say: the love of knowledge, to the deep study of things.<\/span><\/p>\n

Today I have finished my course at the Instituto Tecnologico de Santo Domingo (INTEC), I am a lover of reading, especially classic literature, books that deals with social reality, some self-help reading, among others.<\/span><\/p>\n

In my hobbies I like going to movies, dancing, spending time with my family and friends, and devote myself to a good book, because I believe that reading is the best air ticket for other cultures, other ways of thinking. So when reading a book, look to a horizon that never forget. Reading makes the values \u200b\u200bthat are enclosed in the books are developed in children in a firm, while also learns good citizenship.<\/span><\/p>\n

During my professional training and processes have been regional director of the youth, which works for the professional, educational, sports in this region is likewise worked for Haitian immigrants in the center and center John Bono Montalvo, now I am the president of the association of university students of El Valle and Chairman of the National Network of Associations of University Students of the University of Santo Domingo.<\/span><\/p>\n

Currently working in the Chamber of Deputies of the Dominican Republic, where I do my duties as a legislative aide, my intention in this state is to work in shaping fence projects for the community, especially with international institutions, these institutions not only working for the needy, but the process of institutional strengthening of the Dominican Republic.<\/span><\/p>\n

I am a young computer student of finishing the race right, very loving to the development and improvement, my goal is to achieve all my goals that I can afford to serve my country and everyone who needs me, especially my family. I dream of living in dignity, and in this same way to show others by example as you can manage to live in a dignified manner. I have a goal in my life, first reach each and every one of my goals, to serve whom I need and put in the hands of others the tools so that the same way that I achieve my goals they too can get to achieve ,<\/span><\/p>\n

Simachew Mekonnen Alimaw (Ethiopia)<\/span><\/p>\n

I have BA degree in Economics and Diploma in General Agriculture. And I worked for government and non government organizations at different positions. I have served for more than 9 years being as a Technical Assistant, Specialist and Manager in commercial and development organizations.<\/span><\/p>\n

Today my country faces high population growth, food insecurity, inflation, low productivity and drought. So that I will do more on this issues to improve the livelihood of peoples and economy of the country. My country Ethiopia has already a development program to eradicate poverty. The Millennium Development Goal and the Agricultural Growth and Transformation program are the 2 big development strategies. The government has been doing a short term and long term plan to achieve the Millennium development goal. I hope that this program will add value to my knowledge and skill.<\/span><\/p>\n

I am particularly interested in research related to development projects, Business adminstrations, rural development and livelihood improvement sector. Because I have enough years of practical experience, I have worked with business and the communities at large. I was one of the participants on conducting research on livelihood improvement through integrated watershed management in Amhara region along with the Japanese staffs. I have good skill how to approach and convince people from my past experience.<\/span><\/p>\n

Personally, I am someone who is motivated and ambitious. My teachers and supervisors know me as a courteous and resourceful student, and my classmates know me as a pleasant friend and an enthusiastic coworker. With my good command of English, I will not have difficulty in studying subjects taught in those languages. I have also taken part in many social volunteer activities and worked with foreigners, so I am able to adapt to a constantly changing work environment and maintain good working relationships with my colleagues of different cultural backgrounds. Reading books, watching films and visiting rural areas are some of my hobbies.<\/span><\/p>\n

To me, as a young prospective researcher, it is my dream to devote a part of my life to the development of economy in my country. Ethiopia is still an under developing, and the government has considered the millennium development goal of the country and designed policies and strategies to achieve the goal as a significant and urgent co requisite for the country\u2019s industrialization and modernization.<\/span><\/p>\n

Michael Koko (Nigeria)<\/span><\/p>\n

My name is koko Michael and was born on the 27th of September 1983, 4th overall in a family of eight, five boys and three girls but 2nd boy. As a boy I was very playful and skipped classes a lot therefore failed my first exam as a student but I wasn\u2019t bothered because my mind was always on football. I loved football very much as a kid at the expense of my studies, not that I was a dull boy growing up. As an adult, nothing gives me much joy and fulfillment as playing with kids does. I still love my football very much but not as it used to be any more because time has become a very scarce resource for me so I only watch it on television now. I love travelling a lot as a hobby and also making friends. I am also heavily addicted to the internet and the computer and also electronics. I plan to have a second degree in psychology if everything should work out well for me. Am a very emotional person and thus don\u2019t enjoy have to make people around me feel bad because you will see a smile on my face whenever you see or are around me and I don\u2019t know if it is right that people should not take me seriously because I do laugh a lot.<\/span><\/p>\n

Diamond Israel Opute (Nigeria)<\/span><\/p>\n

I am a spirited and passionate motivator, a born encourager who stops at nothing until you are encouraged to take bold steps that will lead you only to the top. I am the Director and founder of \u201cI Believe In You Fooundation\u201d – an NGO that stands to encouraging the poor, needy, sad and hopeless in the society and also talented people who have lost hope in themselves and their gifting. It was birthed from his passion for charity and reaching out to the poor and needy in the society and the world at large. I have a dream of building the world\u2019s biggest orphanage home soon.<\/span><\/p>\n

I am also the director in charge of \u201cChange Initiating Agents . The \u201cChange Initiating Agents \u201c is a mercenary of Change Initiative. Vision of Change is a Faith Based NGO that is a citizen-based, international network of kingdom impacted global reformation whose mission is to transform the Third World nations using a \u201czero tolerance on failure\u201d approach, by developing their spiritual minds, through radical mental empowerment, using Kingdom principles; therefore empowering their greatest capital which is the human capital and also add value to their lives and making them the Change they desire; while as a ripple effect becoming the Change Agent to their world. It is envisioned by V.O.A Ogbijah.<\/span><\/p>\n

I have served in different leadership positions in various capacities right from the age of 5 years. I served as a leader all through my primary and secondary school days, which won me an award as the most active leader while in the said schools. I am presently studying Geology in the Federal University of Petroleum, (FUPRE), Ogbomoron, located in Delta state, Nigeria.<\/span><\/p>\n

I am a an ardent reader and writer, a business consultant and entrepreneur. I am a moralist who believes in a world with Moral Excellence, a world united with one Goal – Peace, a world without violence or war, a world without corruption, a world bonded together by Love, peace, integrity, honesty, loyalty and fear of God (the creator). I believe in a world that works together as one team, a world without racism, a world that has leaders who fight for the good of all and not the other way round, a world where there is hope for the hopeless, joy to the sad face, a world of peace, a world where leadership is meant for positive impact, a world where leadership is used as a medium of service and not self enrichment, oppression etc.<\/span><\/p>\n

Ndriko Mayigane (Rwanda)<\/span><\/p>\n

For the past 15 years, i have been working as youth leader, activist and volunteer for several international organizations including UNESCO, Oxfam (Trade Fair and Control Arms campains) and World Vision International. I worked as an international consultant for the UN Food and Agriculture organization in Togo and Mali.<\/span><\/p>\n

Being an organizer and youth leader, I was one of the few African youths who were selected to be part of the organizing team for the 1st African Forum of Young Researchers and the 5th session of the World Commission of Ethics for Scientific Knowledge and Technology known as COMEST organized by UNESCO in December 2006 in Dakar, Senegal.<\/span><\/p>\n

I contributed to the inception of the MDGs Youth Caucus in West Africa and he was an active member of this network from 2002-2008. I have acted as the National Coordinator for Rwanda for the Global Youth Panel and Coordinator for East Africa for the African Youth Initiative on Climate Change (AYICC) that i co-founded in 2006 (http:\/\/www.ayicc.net\/?p=327). AYICC is the biggest network of youth-led NGOs and initiatives working on environment issues in over 44 countries across Africa.<\/span><\/p>\n

I have represented African youths and led African youth delegates to several international fora such ADF7 and CCDA1 in Addis Ababa. I was a Global South Delegate to the International Climate Change Negotiations in Copenhagen, Denmark in 2009 (COP15) and Durban, South Africa in 2011 (COP17). I was selected by the UNFCCC Youth Constituency (YOUNGO) as a logistics coordinator based in Durban during COP17 for the global youth participating at COP17.<\/span><\/p>\n

In my country Rwanda, i founded the Rwanda Youth Alliance for Climate Actions (RYACA) (www.ryaca.org) which is an organization that coordinates all youth climate activities in Rwanda. The networks works in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth in Rwanda. I also act as a public health and climate change advisor the Association pour la Conservation de la Nature au Rwanda (www.acnrwanda.org).<\/span><\/p>\n

Being a passionate youth leader, i was selected to participate in the New Village Movement Campaign in South Korea to learn more how transformational leadership developed the communities in that country. I have participated to a number of leadership programs including the Oak Seed Executive Leadership Program organized the Institute of National Transformation (INT) Rwanda Chapter. I have traveled extensively and i have been in more than 30 countries worldwide. So traveling is one of my hobbies apart from reading, learning new things and skills, and listen to Gregorian music.<\/span><\/p>\n

I have a doctorate in veterinary medicine degree (DVM) and my interests include: Climate Change, emerging diseases, public health, rural development, animal production and youth development and empowerment. I work full-time for the Rwanda Agriculture Board as Animal Quarantine Specialist. My comparative skills include among others: project management, youth mobilization, Community organization, event organization and facilitation, social media and networking, and public advocacy<\/span><\/p>\n

Emenike La (USA)<\/span><\/p>\n

Knowing is a tricky topic. To know something is not to be something, and in the world, the only thing that matters is whether we (I am) are being or not being. I thought I had mastered the books in the curriculum, however, looking at my life, where my business and skills are, it is clear that I have more things to learn. My curriculum is that now that I know, it is time to be: to put what I know into practice. This is mastery to me. What I seek to do with these studies is to master the tools in such a way as I can teach them to others, at the same time developing who I am into a person who is a space were people can get the love and value they are promised simply for existing.<\/span><\/p>\n

What really excites me about these studies is the possibility of leaning the process of creating an institute. I envision an institute that can address the needs of rural, low income, and underrepresented populations in the US. I feel that the tools here, in addition to tools that are written by authors close to the population I seek to serve will shift the possibilities for young people who are in these categories. For instance, in addition to material from Psycho-Cybernetics, I would include Na\u2019im Akbar\u2019s Psychological Chains of Slavery and Countering the Conspiracy to Destroy Black Boys by Jawanaza Kunjufu, both of which speak to self image; however, specifically designed for people of color, especially Black Americans.<\/span><\/p>\n

As I review the website and student profiles, I am confronted with the benefits I receive simply for being American. I am also confronted with the distinct differences between being Black in America versus being Black in Africa. There are many things my Ancestors had to sacrifice for me to have access to these opportunities. They didn\u2019t just fall out of the sky. I didn\u2019t just up and one day have access to a university education. My Ancestors had to die, pray, sweat, hide, run, and endure inhuman hardships for me to be where I am. And yet, there are many opportunities and resources, riches even, that I have access to simply because I am American. This is not the way of their people being born eight generations from now where every child will have all opportunities open to them and race will be no more. As their Ancestor I speak to this because there is still a rift between Black Africans and Black Americans whose healing I see starts with the knowledge of what was sacrificed. To gain a piece of the American pie we had to sacrifice part of our personhood, our original identity, connection to true home and knowledge of who we are. The power and awareness ready to be gained from healing this rift could reorganize the status of Black people globally.<\/span><\/p>\n

I am really excited about getting to know some of the students, as this will broaden my scope of the needs of international students and spark new ideas for technologies that will facilitate their dreams. What I seek to learn most is how to put the most important bright ideas and plans that come to me into concrete measurable action. I certainly need mentoring and coaching in this aspect, otherwise I\u2019d tend to read and philosophize without creating much to show for my work. Hopefully, my work with the institute and connections here will mark a turning point in this way of being. I would like to see after completion that when I have a good idea, I stay with it till completion.<\/span><\/p>\n

Dream Team 22<\/span><\/p>\n

In January 2009 we launched a new idea which blends two previous endeavors: The Master Mind Group and the 22 Experiment. We are calling this Dream Team 22 and our goal is to have 220 people contributing $22 per month. We understand that money is energy and that to sustain and build IIGL we need a lot of people pouring their energy into this endeavor on a regular basis. We also know that not everyone can afford to commit $22 a month \u2013 especially our students, who live in countries with economies in which this amount can be equal to a weeks salary. So we are offering two options for those who wish to become a part of the Dream Team. One can commit to a $22 a month contribution or to spending 22 seconds each day holding the vision of IIGL becoming financially sustainable by the end of 2009.<\/span><\/p>\n
