A world where people have access to education and enlightenment at equal fair chances will greatly appeal to me. I’d very much appreciate a world where the basic necessities of life; security, air, food, water, clothes, shelter are not luxuries to some. And even better, will be a world where everyone can dream and humanity awakes to its full potential – where every individual discovers his/her personal super power and wields it to the betterment of another human.

What do you see as the most pressing problems facing the world today?
What I consider the most pressing problem facing the world today is illiteracy. A large number of the human population still cannot access decent education. While this is largely tied to other global issues like poverty, hunger, wars, etc., the consequences of high illiteracy rates are a worse nightmare. Because when illiteracy increases, so does unemployment, crime, hunger, violence, etc. Literacy plays a huge role in overall human existence. And it has little to do with “just going to school.” Thankfully, there are now lots of ways people can educate themselves outside the four walls of the traditional education system. The question is how many so-called illiterates even know this?

How do you feel these problems could best be solved?
One of the ways I feel the issue of illiteracy can be if not erased, reduced to the barest minimum, is by creating an awareness. Creating awareness may sound cliche or ambiguous, but it can be made practical. Once we’ve identified the major reasons people are not being educated, the next is to tackle them.So I’ll begin with some of the reasons we have a high level of illiteracy in our world.

Poverty: when people can barely eat or afford the barest necessities of life, education becomes a far-fetched affair reserved for the luxurious. This reason can be addressed by alleviating poverty and difficult living conditions. And also, my making education free.
Crime/wars: education and insecurity cannot coexist; the two are mutually exclusive. We can’t preach education to someone who isn’t sure their head would remain on their neck the next day. This can be resolved by harnessing conflict resolution strategies and rehabilitating the displaced and affectedvictims.
Other reasons include but are not limited to lack of books, learning disabilities, lack of good academic stimulation, parents with little to no education themselves, etc.
Thankfully, these are solvable problems, and if we can address the fundamentals one step at a time and timely, it’ll go a long way to reducing or eliminating it entirely.

Profile

My name is Grace Ogbe and I love to think I’m a storyteller.
