That I can change the way I think, and I will change the way I live. That if I want, I first need to think like I have it, like I need it, like I deserve it, like it is there for me to take, like I already own it. That all our actions, and their results, are first a product of our thoughts. In summary, what we think, we become and our thoughts are the blueprints of our life.

2. What were the seven ideas which were personally most important to you and why? List these seven ideas followed by an explanation after each one as to why it was important to you. Use personal examples from your own life.

This book has changed my life completely. I have read, and shared it already with a few friends. I am glad I read this text, and thankful that it was sent to me. I have picked countless ideas, but for the purpose of learning, and sharing, these are the seven that have most moved me:

i. First idea is the relationship between thought and physical health.

Effectively, my thoughts affect my mental status, nervous condition, and ultimately affects my mental health. On the other hand, my thoughts determine what I eat, and what exercises I engage in, which effectively, affect my physical health. Thoughts and health are completely related. For a long time I have always not wanted stressful thoughts, or mental pictures. But now, I need to start watching my diet. Two months ago, I started taking vitamin and mineral supplements for my conditions, as a result of a change in my thinking. I have been thinking of purchasing a running gear, for exercise, as well as an exercise tool for the house. Now I see how thoughts have brought me to where I am, and will take me to where I want to go.

ii. The need for peace and serenity.

I am forever grateful at the explanation of the role of thoughts, and peace in my life. I want peace. I want to be still, and let life pass by. Serenity. Standing, sitting still.

iii. The relationship between thought and monetary wealth, or the lack of dependency, beggary, and feeling of want.

Those thoughts of being lazy, lead directly to inaction, lack of focus, indiscipline, lack of courage, in action, and ultimately, to poverty and want. I now see where I am in terms of physical, monetary wealth; I know exactly how I have come to this place. Laziness and thoughts of laid back nature.

iv. The relationship between my thoughts and my purpose in life.

That if my purpose is clear, then the thoughts are more easier to self direct, subconsciously, towards achieving my purpose. I have been having clearer purpose in life in the last one year, or rather, the last five months, and at 20, I now see that my way of thinking has been led by my goals. The clearer the purpose, the stronger the thoughts.

v. The need to have a clear purpose.

In the fast-evolving world of technology and software development, having a clear purpose is not just beneficial—it is essential. For me, as a Fullstack and Android Developer with a background in Computer Science, a clear purpose guides every project I take on, every technology I learn, and every challenge I tackle.

Whether I’m building a law information system, a worker-manager communication app, or a food ordering platform using Room and Jetpack Compose, my purpose is to create practical, user-centered solutions that solve real-world problems. It helps me stay focused amidst constant innovation and keeps my learning aligned with the needs of the users and the goals of each product.

A defined purpose also fuels motivation during complex phases of development—debugging code, improving UI/UX, or integrating third-party APIs like Flutterwave. Knowing why I’m doing what I’m doing keeps me committed to writing clean code, continuously improving my skills, and ensuring that each app I build delivers value.
Ultimately, my purpose is to use technology to improve lives—whether through efficient systems for legal access, platforms for small business visibility, or tools that connect workers and managers. It keeps my projects impactful and my career direction meaningful.

vi. The fact that I will not get what I want, but rather, what I become.

My thoughts make me behave in a given way, and hence, make me look in a given way, and hence, I become in a given way. I will only attract what I become. I am glad I read this. From today, I will dress like what I want, talk like what I want, and behave like what I want, because then I will become what I want. I have been wanting things, and yet, not becoming things. This changes now, with my health, attitude, finances, family relationships, happiness, career, volunteerism, time management, peacefulness, and adventure.

vii. If I do not think positively, I am in essence, thinking negatively.

That my mind is like a garden, freshly ploughed, and I will either put in their seeds, and watch them grow, or the winds will blow in seeds, which will grow wildly. I want to watch my garden. I want to plant seeds of peace, peace, and peace.

3. How will these ideas or lessons help you in a practical way, both in your daily personal life and in helping you to create a better world? If so, how?

On minding my thoughts, I want to start only planting positive thoughts, through and through. The things I want to have, the things I want to experience, the health I want to have, the relationships I want to enjoy, the career expertise I want to have, the adventures I want to enjoy.

But more importantly, I want to start enjoying the adventures starting today, I want to start living healthy, I want to start becoming better, reading more, learning more, like the youth who decides to become better, and later, inspires people. Related to the above is the need to have an even clearer purpose, so that my thoughts will be focused on the purpose, and effectively, become productive, as to realize the purpose. I want to think about my purpose, through and through. Always. A big purpose of my companies, my volunteer work, my career expertise, my relationships. These are very important.

4. Quotes: Are there any statements which the author made that particularly got your attention? The message is to focus on our dreams, to persist, to persevere, and to be determined, no matter the contradictions around us. Jonathan Seagull was happiest, and most contented, when learning about flying, about speed, and about grace in the air. All he wanted was to know more about flying than was known to all his family of seagulls. To this end, he missed lunch, breakfast, and even dinner. Indeed, he paid the ultimate price, or was banished from his community, because he was focused on his main purpose, the one activity that made him really happy.

2. What were the seven ideas which were personally most important to you and why? List these seven ideas followed by an explanation after each one as to why it was important to you. Use personal examples from your own life.

i. The first idea is the need to identify what makes me happy.

One of the most important realizations in my journey as a developer and a Computer Science student is the need to identify what truly makes me happy. For me, happiness stems from building things that work, creating apps that people can use to solve real problems, streamline daily tasks, or improve their quality of life.
I find joy in seeing my ideas come to life through clean interfaces, efficient backend systems, and smooth user experiences. Whether I’m designing a digital certificate system for law enforcement, developing a fitness app to help users track their progress, or building platforms for local businesses to gain exposure, the process of building useful, meaningful software brings me deep satisfaction.
What makes me happy isn’t just coding, it’s knowing that my work has an impact. It’s collaborating on projects that challenge my thinking, learning new tools and frameworks that expand my capabilities, and watching users interact positively with what I’ve created. That sense of purpose and progress is what fuels my passion and keeps me going.

Identifying this has helped me align my projects, learning, and career path with what I love, ensuring that I not only grow professionally but enjoy every step of the journey.

ii. The second idea is the need to give back, as Jonathan Seagull gave back by training other seagulls.

Just like Jonathan Livingston Seagull found fulfillment in helping others learn to fly higher, I believe in the importance of giving back, especially in the tech community that has shaped so much of who I am.
As a developer, I’ve been fortunate to learn from open-source contributors, online communities, mentors, and fellow developers. In return, I aim to share knowledge, support others on their journeys, and contribute to projects and ideas that go beyond personal gain.

Whether it’s mentoring beginners, sharing code on GitHub, documenting my development process, or helping teammates understand a new framework, I believe that growth is most meaningful when it’s shared. Giving back helps build stronger, more inclusive communities, and it reinforces my own understanding and passion.
I see each project not just as an opportunity to build something useful, but also as a platform to teach, inspire, and open doors for others, just as Jonathan Seagull did. Because in the end, real success lies not just in what we achieve, but in how we help others rise.

iii. The third idea is to never give up, despite the pain and suffering, to persevere, and keep on keeping on.

Jonathan Seagull was having pain in the lessons in the high flying altitude, but he kept on. I need to learn to also keep up. In both life and software development, challenges are inevitable bugs that seem unsolvable, deadlines that feel impossible, and moments of doubt that test your will. But if there’s one truth I hold close, it’s the need to never give up.

Like many developers, I’ve faced setbacks failed builds, rejected ideas, technical roadblocks, and personal losses. Yet each obstacle has been a lesson in resilience. The pain, frustration, and uncertainty are real, but so is the growth that comes from persevering through them.

Whether I’m fixing a crashing app, rebuilding a feature from scratch, or navigating life’s personal hardships, I remind myself that progress often hides behind persistence. Great apps aren’t built overnight, neither are strong careers. It’s the consistent effort, the willingness to try again, and the belief that the next line of code could be the breakthrough that defines success.

To persevere is to keep moving forward, no matter how tough the journey gets. That mindset keeps me going not just as a developer, but as a human being determined to keep building, learning, and growing every day.

iv. The fourth idea is the need not to do things because people want us to do them, or because they are the norm.

In Jonathan Seagull’s time, the normal thing was to fight for food the whole day, but he insisted on learning to fly, breaking from the norm. In a world where expectations and trends often dictate decisions, I’ve learned the importance of not doing things just because others want me to, or because “everyone else is doing it.” True growth and fulfillment come from pursuing what genuinely aligns with my values, vision, and passions.
As a developer, it’s easy to follow the crowd, building what’s trending, chasing hype technologies, or taking career steps just to meet external expectations. But I’ve chosen a different path: one led by curiosity, purpose, and intention. I create projects that matter to me, apps that solve real problems, platforms that empower others, and tools that reflect my creativity and technical skills.

Whether I’m building a law database, a food delivery system using Room instead of Firebase, or a task management app for worker-admin communication, I make decisions based on what fits the problem and serves the user best not just what’s conventional.
Choosing my own direction might mean going against the grain, but it also means staying true to my goals, building with authenticity, and growing on my own terms. That’s the kind of developer and person I strive to be.

v. The fifth idea is willingness to learn.

Jonathan Seagull was willing to listen to the masters, and learn new tricks. In technology, nothing stands still. New frameworks emerge, systems evolve, and yesterday’s skills quickly become today’s foundations. That’s why I believe the willingness to learn is not just important it’s essential.

As a Fullstack and Android Developer, my journey has been shaped by continuous learning. From mastering Kotlin and Jetpack Compose to exploring backend systems with Django, Firebase, and Room, I’ve embraced every challenge as a chance to grow. I don’t wait to be taught I seek out knowledge, experiment with new tools, and learn by doing.

Whether I’m debugging code at midnight, exploring emerging tech like blockchain, or switching databases mid-project to improve performance, my mindset is simple: every problem is an opportunity to learn something new.

This willingness keeps me adaptable, motivated, and relevant. It ensures that I’m not just building software, but evolving with it becoming a better developer, collaborator, and creator every step of the way.

vi. The sixth idea is focus.

Jonathan Seagull was a very focused bird, only working on flying. This is an area where I have challenges. In a world full of distractions, focus is my anchor. It allows me to prioritize what matters, stay committed to my goals, and deliver quality work. Focus helps me transform ideas into polished, purposeful projects.

vii. Finally, I learned the idea of the need to trust other people with responsibility.

Jonathan Seagull was able to let his new students start new things, and to be in charge of their own fate. I am learning to pass on more and more responsibility to others, so that I can also focus on growing, becoming better, and helping other people.

3. How will these ideas or lessons help you in a practical way, both in your daily personal life and in helping you to create a better world? If so, how?

The lessons on giving back will help to inspire me further to give more, and do my part in making my community a better place. The lesson on perseverance will motivate me to become a stickler, build my staying power, and never give up on my goals. This is an area where I need growth. The lesson on focus is a huge lesson given my current clutter of activities, and I hope, and know that when I focus, I will get more from my concentrated effort, than I am now currently getting from my diversified efforts.

4.
