The four questions are: Is it true? Can I absolutely know that it’s true? How do I react when I think that thought? Who would I be without the thought?

Turn it around, then find three genuine, specific examples of how the turnaround is true in your life.

Below are some key points I found important from the book:

To think that I know what’s best for anyone else is to be out of my business: The mindset that as adults, parents, leaders, we know what is best for others especially people that are close to us is delusional. This mindset according to the author usually results in emotional stress and heartbreaks in relationships. I have come to the understanding through the author’s prescribed guide that we can only know what is truly good for us and not for others. Trying to force our understanding of what we feel is good on others will only result in pain and unnecessary stress.

Our spouses, parents, and children are the clearest masters we could hope for. Again and again, they will show us the truth we don’t want to see, until we see it: The attitudes and behaviors of people around us have a way of shaping our lives. We usually see them as source of our joy or unhappiness most times. The author explained in the book that these people who are so close to us such as our spouses, siblings, children etc. always make us see the true part of us in their behaviors whether good or bad. Once we stop judging them and begin to judge our own attitudes and reactions towards them and then make efforts to improve, we’ll learn to live healthier lives.

Your happiness is one of your responsibilities: Just like the statement in number three, it is our reactions to people and events in our lives that determine our feelings. We are solely responsible for those feelings whether good or bad. When we constantly point accusing fingers on situations and people around us, we are bound to continue wallowing in feelings of sadness. I have grown to believe that situations and people are the cause of my joy or sadness but I have come to the understanding through the ideas in this book and so many other books such as “As a Man Thinketh” by James Allen that it is the attachment I give to those external forces that cause negative feelings. Thus, I am fully responsible for my feelings. I am still consciously working on myself to fully take charge of how I feel and react towards others and circumstances and I believe that it is really paying off well.

The power of turnaround lies in the discovery that everything you think you see on the outside is really a projection of your own mind: This statement encourages us to constantly investigate our minds to discover the stories we tell about things and people around us and then turn them around to reflect our true selves. This will help us to project positive feelings more often.

These statements have made me to be more conscious of my feelings and I’m trying as much as possible to see others simply the way they are without judging them.

I have learned to practice deep inquiry on every negative thought or feelings that develops within me. I believe that these ideas have made me a better person and so will help me to create a better world.

(Lynda is a Level Seven student and the IIGL Recording Secretary)

What Others Are Saying

How I have Changed

Charles Kihia Mwangi (Kenya)

kihiacm@yahoo.com

At the beginning of the course, I was looking for courses that are different from the daily courses featuring on many websites. Also, I wanted a course that will personally develop and empower me. I found International Institute for Global Leadership recommended by one website. I thought it must be helpful for making me a leader. Those were the reasons for taking the course. With completing the second level in the constructed self-course of International Institute For Global Leadership, I was able to benefit from a variety of new things from the course, as well as refresh my memory on things that I already knew, just needed a reminder about. The course has made me realize that whenever I encounter problems I should first seek answers from my own self, I need to realize that I have the capacity to control my life and influence my habits. It’s all in my character and the way I see the problem is the problem.

The course has helped me on knowing how to get everything I want faster than I ever thought possible by developing the habit of taking action on my plans, goals, ideas and insights. I have developed a positive mental attitude regarding my abilities and my opportunities. Whatever I’m doing I’m aiming higher than I have done in the past. Reading had always been one of my strengths, but it was challenging to take that initial step past the fictional reading which constricted my ideas for so long. Moving past this reading, however, has greatly opened my mind. My thoughts are now able to be more complex because I have learned new inspirational life ideals. The course in particular contains the distilled essence of success, achievement and goal attainment. To be honest I’m now responding to vibration around me and attracting what I desire for my life. Currently I’m taking the impossibilities in my life and help in building a goal oriented life with strong beliefs on how to continue endeavoring life challenges and purpose. I’m practicing the seven habits of highly effective people and benefiting through application of the seventeen success principles.

I have learned a lot about how to succeed in life, both from getting ideas from the course as well as practicing those ideas. I feel confident at this point that I am capable of successfully taking life in a positive manner. I have acquired many useful skills, many of which came directly from the IIGL course. In working to develop my mental attitude, I have learned much about how to communicate, good and bad ways to motivate others, and techniques to help combat common personal challenges to name a few. This testimonial exercise is helping me verbalize and summarize what I have gotten out of this journey. The most surprising thing I learned is that that I can achieve anything I want in life. I will continue flexing my power of thought to uncover and discover my untapped talents and potentials and actualize them to realize my full potential. I will continue to direct my energies and fashion my thoughts to fruitful issues.

Currently taking the course has had a positive learning experience. By experience, I really mean experience. The course does not teach long equations and theories. Rather, one has to be dedicated and be a hardliner. These seem not as important as the hard core principles and practices. However, I strongly believe that these skills are absolutely necessary to differentiate myself from the rest well or less educated.

What Our Students Are Reading

Mindset By: Carol Dweck $9.60

World-renowned Stanford University psychologist Carol Dweck, in decades of research on achievement and success, has discovered a truly groundbreaking idea the power of our mindset. Dweck explains why it’s not just our abilities and talent that bring us success but whether we approach them with a fixed or growth mindset. She makes clear why praising intelligence and ability doesn’t foster self-esteem and lead to accomplishment, but may actually jeopardize success. With the right mindset, we can motivate our kids and help them to raise their grades, as well as reach our own goals personal and professional. Dweck reveals what all great parents, teachers, CEOs, and athletes already know: how a simple idea about the brain can create a love of learning and a resilience that is the basis of great accomplishment in every area.

Students In Action

Board Member Represented in Mandela 2016 Fellowship

In July, Board Member and Level Five Student Busani Sibindi (Zimbabwe); liverbra@gmail.com was one of 1,000 Africans selected to participate in the Mandela 2016 Washington Fellowship.
