Lifelong Learning; Why do We Need It?

Our world is changing around us in such a frantic pace that if we do not continue to grow and develop; we will soon be left behind. In the 21st century, we all need to be lifelong learners (LLL). We need to continually keep our skills sharp and up to date so that we have an edge in all we do. Of course, we all have a natural desire to learn for adapting to change, enriching and fulfilling our lives. Lifelong learning (LLL) covers the whole range of learning that includes: formal, informal and non-formal learning. It also includes the skills, knowledge, attitudes and behaviors that people acquire in their day-to-day experiences. LLL is the continuous building of skills and knowledge throughout the life of an individual. Nowadays, there is a draw more than ever to LLL to stay young and stay sharp mentality. It is important to note that LLL can take on many different forms and does not have to be what we think of when we think of the traditional learning classroom environment. One thing cannot be disputed though; LLL is something we should all be participating in, having an obligation to ourselves to continue learning throughout the whole of our lives. The following are some keys and powerful benefits for LLL:
\nLLL Sharpens the mind: As getting older, continuous learning helps to keep the mind sharp and improve memory. It is a known fact that learning in general has beneficial effects on the brain. Research has shown that people with more education are less likely to have dementia in old age.
\nLLL increases the wisdom: LLL enables lifelong learners to put their lives in perspective. It increases their understanding of previous successes and failures and helps them to understand themselves better. They more fully develop the wisdom that can come with later life.
\nLLL keeps us involved as active contributors to society. Lifelong learners take part in educational programs and offer expertise to society through meaningful community involvement. Lifelong learners are not a strain on society, they are an incredible asset.
\nLLL helps fully develop natural abilities. We all have innate natural abilities. Once we\u2019re no longer working fulltime, we have the opportunity to fully explore and develop these abilities. In the 21st century, we all need to be lifelong learners. Our world is changing around us in such a frantic pace that if we do not continue to grow and develop; we will soon be left behind. We need to continually keep our skills sharp and up to date so that we have an edge in all we do.
\nLLL makes the world a better place. Through the community service aspect of LLL, older learners can give back to their communities and to the world. Lifelong learners spend 30, 40 or more years interacting with the world, what they have learned during that time can be translated into real value for the betterment of society. Their wisdom, insight, it\u2019s all of tangible benefit to the world around them.
\nLLL helps us adapt to change. Society is in a state of constant flux. LLL enables us to keep up with society\u2019s changes especially the technological ones. A learning environment with our peers not only makes it possible to stay abreast of change, it also makes it fun.
\nLLL helps us find meaning in our lives. Sometimes it\u2019s difficult looking back on our lives, but LLL gives us the benefit of real perspective and enables us to find true meaning in the hills and valleys of our past.
\nLLL leads to an enriching life of self-fulfillment. Through academic learning, educational adventure and our renewed sense of volunteerism, we expand our awareness, embrace self-fulfillment and truly create an exciting multi-dimensional life.<\/p>\n

As Director of a Charity founded in the 1950\u2019s, I\u2019d love to share with

\nInternational Institute for Global Leadership, or IIGL. The why of our giving here for over 15 years is very simple. Our policy is to water and feed that \u201ctree\u201d which has shown over many seasons its ability to bear both abundant fruit and quality fruit.<\/p>\n

You may judge IIGL very quickly by its fruits which consists of dozens
\nand dozens of young Leaders\/Entrepreneurs\/Farmers\/Teachers-Trainers\/
\nCommunity Organizers\/Inventors; to name just a few who have made a huge
\ndifference in their communities, their regions and many of them, in their
\nentire countries. These are the World Leaders of Tomorrow and an impressive
\nnumber now entering the world stage are Graduates of IIGL.<\/p>\n

Two examples: Felix Iziomoh (Nigeria) Author\/Trainer of Youths\/Consultant\/
\nLeader and Lawrence Afere (Nigeria) Farmer\/Teacher\/Entrepreneur\/Leader, founder of Springboard. So in demand are these two Graduates of IIGL that Felix is now
\nPresenting in Japan and Lawrence has been invited to Europe for the second
\ntime in two months to describe his hyper-successful SpringBoard Farms.<\/p>\n

I highly recommend to anyone seeking to create a better future on this Planet

\nI am from Liberia, West coast of Africa. I was born October 20, 2003. I started my education at the aged of 3 and I graduated from secondary school just recently 2022.I started my volunteer in the past three years and I have passion to develop leadership skills.<\/p>\n

Stephen Okot (Uganda)<\/strong>
\nI am a Ugandan by nationality, an Acholi by tribe, from northern Uganda. I am visionary and focused young man who strive to bring out the of myself to the benefits of everyone. I love discipline, integrity, justice and compassion. I am self motivated and results oriented person. I desire to see everyone in the society achieve their unique life dreams and live to the fullest.<\/p>\n

Julius Charles (USA)<\/strong>
\nI am a single father of 2 daughters. Served in the USN I am searching everyday for a higher purpose and how I can be of service to others and leading them into a better future after I am gone. I would like to leave a legacy for my daughters but at the same time leave my mark on this world and the people I meet in a positive spiritual way.<\/p>\n

Kyle Hemauer (USA)<\/strong>
\nI am a 41 year old white male born in Wisconsin USA to two parents and an older 2 year old brother. Our family unit was tight-knit with no abuse or trauma from within. We moved several times before settling in the piedmont of North Carolina where I completed elementary, middle, and high school. I was always a top performer in school, well behaved and loved by my teachers. My trauma came in the form of a rare skin condition which was visually obvious to others and came with constant questions of \u201cwhat\u2019s wrong with you\u201d and I began to believe that something was inherently wrong with me.<\/p>\n
