Poverty, Corruption and inadequate knowledge pose pressing problems to the development of the world today. It is like a cankerworm that has eaten deeply into the roots. In Nigeria, almost 70% of the population lives on less that 2USD per day, making us 2nd of the world poverty capital. Corruption and mismanagement of funds has left many at the mercy of uncertainties. Currently, the educational system in Nigeria is not adequate to address the 21st century challenges we encounter everyday.
For the world to become a safe haven that we envisage, poverty, corruption and inadequate knowledge needs to be addressed with intensify efforts on a global level.

How do you feel these problems could best be solved?

Solutions to these problems lies in the hands of individuals; individuals in government, individuals in not for profit sectors, individuals in private institutions, individuals – young or old acknowledging that there is a challenge. People need to see beyond statistics, declare emergencies starting from poverty which is central to development and a world safe to live out potentials.

Profile

I have a degree in Public Administration and presently am a Masters’ Student of Health Policy and Management at the University of Ibadan. My interest in leadership and development motivated me to volunteer at Heirs Teens Foundation; a not-for-profit organisation consisting of young people who are committed to empowering teenagers to make right decisions career-wise. During my compulsory National Youth Service, I also joined the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) CDS group in Oyo state, Nigeria where I trained about 250 secondary school students on Millennium Development Goals. As a trained MDGs Development Knowledge Facilitator, I combine English and Yoruba language to facilitate for easy comprehension. I coordinated a team – Ibadan North East MDGs CDS cohort to visit schools within the local government on how to combat the Ebola Virus Outbreak in Nigeria in 2014.

Currently, my role at Onelife Initiative for Human Development offers the opportunity to head a team in facilitating and conducting baseline survey, advocacies and creating behavioral and communication changes on salient societal challenges to improve lives and livelihood of people specifically in young people.
