Assessment by Amaka Ibe...

As A Man Thinketh
Assessment by Amaka Ibe (Nigeris)

1. What ideas were personally most important to you in this book?

Firstly, “Good thought and action can never produce bad result, while bad thought and action can never produce good result”.

That is, whatever you do will sure be reap by you. In other words, what goes around comes around. When you do well to your fellow beings surely, they shall also pay you back with same goodies. But if reverse is the case, same thing will also be imply back to you, you can never sow corn and expect to reap beans. You shall reap whatever effort you put into this life.

“Every act of a man springs from his hidden seeds of thought and could not have appeared without them”

It's the inner thought of a man that showed forth the action which will embark it. There was I time I believed that I can never make my 'mathematics', due to the fear I had for both the subject and the subject teacher. They contributed to the fear I had for it then, I was so scared that whenever its time for us to have the subject in class, I will try my best to listen but due to my fear I hardly comprehend it. But when I began to change my negative thought to positive, when I started to believe in myself, things change and I made the paper with good 'distinction'. I am no longer scared of the subject because, I had changed my total view of the subject. And I started to believe in myself.

You are what you are because you believe in yourself. Man should not think negatively about himself but positively. His thought will determine the action which he will put forth. Everyman shall gain out of life the action which he put into it.

“Strong pure and happy thought build up the body in vigor and grace”

A man that look at himself and appreciate the grace which was given to him, will always have a cause to extend it towards the goodies of life, but he who never appreciated what he has got will always be limited to his thought and believe about himself. Thought is a very powerful thing, it goes a long way in contributing to a man's achievement in life. If it's a thought that's mix with a definiteness of purpose. It is what ever you have in mind that you shall produce and what you produce is what people will see. He fashion tools which he built for himself, heavenly mansions of joy, strength and peace. A man shall build for himself the kind of life he desire to live in.

I alone can decide on what ever I want to be in life. Its me who is the author of my faith in life. No one but I and I alone, when I decided I want to make in my mathematics of course I did made it. It was only possible when I build a hope in me and believed I could achieve whatever I lay my mind on to achieve.

2. Can you relate the ideas or concepts in this book to your personal circumstances in life? Such as goals, value, relationships.

“The man who shrinks from self-crucifixion can never fail to accomplish the object which his heart is set”.

A man whose sole object is to acquire wealth must be prepared to work hard and make some sacrifices before he can achieve his object. I had a dream to graduate from the university with a first class result. I know for me to achieve this desire of mine, I had to make some sacrifices. Which means I must be prepared to work hard, be punctual in class and study more.

“Not what he wish and prays for but what he just earns”.

His wishes and prayers are only gratified and answered when they harmonized with his thought and action.

It's a very good thing to have a dream, but it's the dream is only beautiful when it's with accomplishment. Life is not all about dreaming a man who dreams and never works towards his dream shall continue dreaming. But a man who dreams and makes his dream a reality is a man is we called an achiever because he worked hard to achieve his dream. Man should thrives and do everything possible to make his dream a reality.

“Every thought seed sown or allowed to fall into the mind and to take root there produces its own blossoming sooner or later into and bearing its own fruitage of opportunity and circumstance”.

Every mans thought sowed in his mind with definiteness of purpose, will spring forth its result. I had learned almost everyday of my life that, a man will be whatever he had in his mind to be, if he really works hard. He should be prepared to overcome every obstacle, and never allowed any failure to weigh him down. Because it's bound to happen for there to be a time of difficulty in every mans aspirations towards success in life. If he fails its only because he wants to and if he rises its only because he wants to. There is always a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. So a man should learn to face difficulty in other to achieve success.

I had failed many times in life on my course to success, yet I never allowed this to take my dreams away from me. Due to this believe of mine I won some I lost some, those that I lost to I never gave up yet and those that I won I do celebrate. I believed I will only be a poor man if I refused to make use of every opportunity that comes across me. I understand there are bound to be time of trials but am ready to face it whenever it comes.

3. What are the most important new ideas or concept you learned from this book?

I have learnt that only the wise man, whose thoughts are controlled and purified makes the winds and the storms of the soul obey him. If a man often allowed his state of mind to overtake him, is likely to find life so difficult to live in because many circumstances will come in life that will affect the state of mind but if he learns how to control it by thinking positively then he will always overcomes the tribulations of life.

“Self control is strength, right thought is mastery, and calmness is power”.

A man who has self control will find it easy to study the cause of every problem that could he find himself. And he will find the grace to think the way out and calm his troubles in life by applying the best solutions to them.

He who cherishes a beautiful vision, a lofty ideal in his heart will one day achieve it. That is if you believe in yourself and know that nothing is impossible, if you believe in your dreams and believe in yourself to achieve them. The sky will not only be your limit but your mate.

Your vision is the promise of what you shall one day become, your ideal is prophesy of what you shall at last unveil. Dreams are seedlings of realities.

A man only rise, conquer and achieve by lifting up his thought. A man can only achieve by seeing himself there but when a man doubted himself then he can never get to realize his dream. A mans believes will be his achievement.

Achievement of any kind is the crown of effort, the diadem of thought. Every man that makes it in life did so not by magic but my working hard, and by thinking wisely on what to do.

Victories attained by right thought can be maintained only by watchfulness.

“He who conquered doubt and fear has conquered failure” With the believe that you can make it and boldness attach to it, surely you will reach success at its peak.

A man should make his purpose his supreme duty and should demote himself to its attainment, not allowing his thought to wander away into ephemeral fancies, longing and imaginations.

He must be determined if he wants to achieve his goals in life, he must avoid procrastination.

4. Has this book challenge or changed your thinking in any way?

As a matter of fact, I learned more from the book that's I can perspire to acquire my heart desire. With positive thought, because it's in mans thought that's lies his believes.

I also learnt that, every achievement starts from a dream. If you don't succeed, don't give up keep trying, because, you might just be a feet close to success when you quit.

Also, to achieve success you have to be ready to make sacrifices. Success never lies in dreaming alone but dreaming with hard work.

5. Are there ideas in the book that you disagree with?

No.

6.What did you find most helpful and least helpful in this book?

All are helpful.

7. Please in 50 words or less, please describe the idea the whole book is trying to convey.

The book actually is trying to paint a picture to its reader's mind that, are action are mostly justify by out thought. So it's what one has in mind that is likely to come out in his or her action in life.

Please rate the following question on a scale from 1 to 10. Ten is good one is poor.

A. How interesting was it to read? 9
B. How helpful were the contents? 10
C. How easy was it to understand? 10
D. Would you recommend it to others? 10
E. What is the overall rating you would give it? 10

Jonathan Livingston Seagull
Assessment by Amaka Ibe

1. What ideas were personally important to you in this book?

The first idea that I found in this book is that, “Success begins at fellows will”

We can see clearly in the book that Jonathan Livingston seagull has a great desire for learning, and he made it his priority to learn at all cost. He never relent, he will be all alone learning to fly, practicing at his own desire, at his own will he enjoy what he is doing . To his parent he is doing the impossible, trying to be what they thought he cant be, but he loves what he is doing and he allow no criticism. He lives what other could call meaningless life. While others are out in queue for food, all he is ever hunger for is his desire to fly.

This brought my mind to the time when I was in college, I love reading, and I so much enjoy it that whenever we are on break I'll be busy in the classroom studying what we have been thought before the break period. Normally, the break period is meant for refreshment. But instead of me to be out with my fellow classmates, I will prefer to be alone in the classroom studying what we have been taught. Not that am not hungry, but my passion for learning made me forget food. I had a great will for success.

My classmates will comes back and still find me reading and they'll often says that, “all work and no play makes jack a dull boy” well am not a boy so that's not meant for me. I love studying and nothing can stop me. Am a scholar, I thrive for success I want too be free and I really have to work hard to accomplish that. I have to reach my goal in life, I have to study now.
“You've got to be sure of yourself before you can ever win a price”

After learning so much Jonathan, he went back to his flock, hoping to transmute into them his new idea about life, his discoveries. But they rejected the life he brought to them. They hates him, they despised him for trying to be different.

“Never quits due to temporary defeat”
Jonathan never allow the people hatred for him to discourage him, it goes a long way in pulling him closer to success. He was rejected, he was hated by his brothers, but success loves him and he clung on to his only friend. With success he is always learning and that makes him happy.

I was once introduced to a business, which I have to start firstly, by attending in other to be thought how too go about the business; I attended the seminar, which was taught that we could become a business owner. We can control our time by ourselves without anyone controlling our time for us. Without waiting to be employed after graduating from university. We could employ ourselves. They gave us the procedures in which we have to follow to own a business by ourselves. The procedure goes thus; register with some amount of money, to become a business owner, informed your friend to do as you did, buy food supplements which is in form of medicinal drugs, tell your friend to do same thing as you did find people tell them the work of the drugs and sell it for them. Which I did, I will go out and network people, telling them about the company and teach them to do what I did. So on each person I got I will accumulate some points, and same thing will apply to the people which have registered through me to the business. I will also made some money an each medicine I sold instantly, I will also accumulate point some points on the drugs I bought for that month, so when the month comes to an end they will have to check my points if it could pull the points of those in my network. It is these points that will determine how much I will be paid at the end of the month.

The business was going on. I was doing fine, in the first month I had registered about four friends into the business and they also got some of their friends into the business, I had about ten people in my network I was promoted by a grade which has a specific amount of salary attach to it.

But the following month became so tough for me, I couldn't meet the requirement. I had to remain at same post. Same thing repeated itself the following month, I can't cope anymore it became unbearable, I don't have money to finance the business, I had to quit it. But those that I introduced into the business survived the hardship and they are enjoying the business now.

Probably if I had known the closeness of success to me in the business, I might not have given it up by now and surely reap the fruit of my labor. I quitted and I failed.

“Learning becomes fun with enthusiasm”
Positive mental attitude push towards learning, with keen desire to achieve ones aim at studying often makes learning becomes interesting, surely, your discovery will bring smiles on your face.
2. Can you relate the ideas or concept in this book to your personal circumstances in life such as your relationships, your beliefs, your goals your values?

Yes, actually, I discovered that, by 'trying and trying without relenting one will actually reach perfection'

Me as a person I thrive for nothing but absolute success in my career am ready to give it all its going to take from me to achieve the best in life. My goal in life is to be among the best of my time. I want to lay down a solid foundation for the youth coming behind. I want them to know that, they are the author and finisher of their own faith. To let them know that it is an obvious fact that they will surely come across different kind of obstacles in life they should be strong to fight till they won they should only desire for victory in all their endeavors.

Sometimes ago, I made up my mind to seek for advice from one rich man who owns a publishing company which wasn't far from my house then. I told my friends about my thought; they said I shouldn't that the man will not grant me audience, because he is a very busy. I told them that I will surely meet him. I started to prepare myself ready to meet the man. I want to convince him to grand me audience. One day I saw him standing by his car. I want to him and I talked to him I told him about my desires in life and he gave me an appointment. When the time finally came, I went to his office and I drank tea with him, then we settled down to talk and he advised my and he changed my thinking. Since that day I had believed that there is nothing in life that I set my mind on to achieve that I can not meet up with.

3. What are the most important new ideas or concept you learned from the book?

First and foremost never to lost 'enthusiasms for learning.' I found out from this book that learning with great enthusiasm, will make learning easy thing to do. It goes a long way in making it fun because definitely, with enthusiasm, learning will enter the subconscious mind. When desire is blend with enthusiasm, the subconscious mind will instantly picks it up , and transmute it to infinite intelligence, that it empower the physical strength.

It always works when you know what you are doing. It's you who know best because you are the one who determine what you really desire to be in life. And it's whatever effort you put into this life that you shall take out of it. Be it positive or negative.

Learn so much at a time, that you don't have to go through a thousand lives to reach perfection.

Truly, learning is like finding your way out of life obstacles. Only you can decide if you want to be free or not. Free from limitation, from failure, from self-doubt to self assurance. It is good if we all could learn at once so as to revolutionize our life. It assured us further that it could help us to find congenial friends, solve problems, break out of stale habits. Like it helped Jonathan Livingston Seagull to find new friends, new life and explode him into the world totally different from the world he has known before, a world of enthusiasm and exhilaration and understanding and joy.

Keep going despite adversity and hardship.
Surely, adversity will come while thriving while thriving for success one should never give it up. Because, success will the comfort, towards fear.

Instead of being enfeebled by age you should be empowered by it.
Abraham Lincoln was a failure at everything he tried, until he was well pass the age of forty. He was a mister nobody from nowhere, until a great experience came into his life, aroused the sleeping genius within his heart and brain.

4. Has this book challenge or change your thinking in any way?

Yes, it made me realize that I am a perfect creation and that I can reach and achieve my heart desire in life. I can touch perfection like Jonathan .

It made me realize that there is a power within me that can revolutionize my life. A power invisible, intangible, but completely real. A power that under its influence and guidance I can become an entirely new person, stronger, most confident, better balanced more energetic, more resilient, more capable of coping with the ever increasing complexity of modern living.

5. Are there any idea in the book that you totally disagree with?

Yes, the idea that says there in no such place as heaven. You and I know there is heaven.

6. What do you find most helpful in the book?

I found everything helpful and empowering.

7. In 50 words or less, please describe the main idea the whole book is trying to convey.

The book is trying too tell us that there is a powerful potentials in every individual, but it is not self-activating. It is latent in human beings and it will remain latent until it is activated.

Please rate the following questions on scale from 1 to 10. Ten is good one is poor.

A. How interesting was it to read? 10
B. How helpful were the contents? 10
C. How easy was it to understand? 8
D. Will you recommend it to others? 10
E. What is the overall rating you would give it? 10
